Responding

Sundays are a great day for letters to the editor. Two weeks ago the NRA trotted out supporters to champion the 2nd Amendment. I responded with a “sarcastic” letter.

I don’t know if I fall into the category of uneducated or a liberal socialist. But where in my letter did I say anything about banning or confiscation of weapons?

Where did I state that the NRA did not do positive things? I only posed the question that NRA members should consider exactly what the NRA stood for.

Teaching gun safety, responsible handling of firearms, training facilities, summer camps and shooting ranges are all admirable endeavors of the NRA, especially in a country that has more guns than people.

One comment posed in the letter was “just who do you think you are?” Let me give you a hint. In my part of Pennsylvania we can hunt without an AR-15 or any other semi-automatic weapon.

We don’t need 30-round magazines to harvest a deer. I also don’t spend my life living in fear that someone is going to take my guns.

Trust me, I am just as proud to having never been hornswoggled into sending my hard earned money to a group that can not encourage reasonable gun debate.

I could go on and on but I heard that there is a great Waffle House in Tennessee that I want to visit. I just hope I make it back.
