I have to applaud City Councilwoman Liz Miele for her reprieve from demolition of the former YMCA building on the 300 block of West Fourth Street in Williamsport at the last council meeting.

It would be nice to see if a developer could be found for this building.

For those of us who have been lifelong residents of the Williamsport area, razing historic buildings in the city is not something we like to see.

I don’t see buildings being built these days with the quality of materials of those built years ago.

It was unfortunate that the old YMCA happened to be standing on the wrong side of Elmira Street.

Had it been built on the 400 block of West Fourth Street, it would have been protected by being in the historical district of Williamsport.
