Selfless patriotism

Sometimes we get it right. Muncy School District honored alumni Linda Fisher Poulton as well as they should. A community leader who asks neither for the spotlight nor praise, Linda has helped create an 11-acre park with her husband, Bill, and the Muncy Historial Society. They engineered the dismantling of a canal boat from the Canal Museum in Easton and brought it to the park.

Linda is involved with bringing the Williamsport Symphony to Muncy for a free concert every summer, an event that over 1,000 attended. Quilt shows, lectures to school children on local history, museum tours, historic signage, barn quilts and enthusiasm for local art are but a few of the gifts Linda lavishes on Muncy and Lycoming County.

On the week before Veterans Day, they (Muncy Historical Society) volunteer and Muncy Elementary teachers take the 5th graders to the cemetery to mount flags at the graves of Veterans from each war. The children are respectful and proud. They are learning the lesson of community involvement, caring and service that Linda Poulton has exhibited to all of us.

Thank you, Muncy School District. Sometimes we get it right. Acts of quiet selfless patriotism need to be noted. Linda Poulton is just that patriot.
