Comparing borough, city
Let me congratulate South Williamsport on hiring Steve Cappelli as borough manager. He will do a fine job, as he did as mayor of Williamsport. However, it looks like the cost involved is $120,000 in salary plus $40,000 in benefits for the borough manager and assistant’s position in a municipality of 6,400 people.
In Williamsport there is talk of scrapping the current form of government and replacing it with a city manager. If that happens, the city, with a population of 30,000, will probably need to come up with a heck of a lot more than the $160,000 South Williamsport is paying for management.
Many city taxpayers already are close to the limit of affordable taxation and I would advise voters to keep that fact in mind when they decide whether to change the way we govern the city this November.
