Climate change evidence overwhelming

The evidence that human activities are causing climate change that may soon be irreversible is overwhelming. We may have barely a decade left before the last tipping point. Yet the United States, once the most powerful and persuasive nation in the world, has failed to exert the leadership we must have to avert the ultimate disaster.

To every member of Congress who has ignored or denied climate change, or even supported policies that make the crisis worse: In his 1856 poem “Maud Muller” John Greenleaf Whittier wrote, “For of all sad words of tongue or pen, The saddest are these: ‘It might have been!'”

Yours may be the last Congress that could have acted decisively to stop climate change and save the world. But don’t worry about going down in history as the Congressman who “might have been” the one who prevented the ultimate disaster. There probably won’t be anyone left to remember you.
