Wolf administration lists road construction achievements in region
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Montoursville-based Engineering District 3 is wrapping up another busy construction season that saw 586 miles paved or preserved, and bids opened on 50 roadway contracts and 30 bridge contracts.
In addition to the $147.6 million in contracts issued, the region covering Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga and Union counties saw significant bridge work completed. Work was performed on 141 state-owned bridges by contractors or department forces. This included the replacement or rehabilitation of 26 structurally deficient bridges, the replacement or rehabilitation of 26 non-structurally deficient bridges, and preservation work on 89 bridges in good condition to extend the life of those bridges.
This work included 14 small bridge projects and 18 bridge preservation projects completed by department-force crews. These projects included two deck replacements, three superstructure replacements, and nine complete bridge replacements. The district has been able to stretch resources by using in-house capabilities such as paving and bridge crews to complete work.
