Empty Nest/Full House

POSTED:Tue, April 22, 2008 @ 8:51PM

So, here I sit ... and wait

Like anything government, there are moments of much excitement amid seas of silence. And so I wait. For the climactic moment ... who wins Pennsylvania in the pursuit of the Democratic nomination for president?

Nearly as big in my mind, who will the Republicans nominate for the state's 23rd Senate seat? and who will go on the ballot for the state's 83rd House district, or either of the two Congressional districts whose jurisdictional line meanders a crooked path through the middle of Lycoming County? And I wonder, does anybody else care?

Certain moments still stick in my mind from the two political forums the Sun-Gazette co-sponsored with Backyard Broadcasting, moderated by the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, at the Community Arts Center. They are the moments when candidates didn't answer the question. It happened each night, and it said to me that these people don't know what they are getting themselves into, and taking the people of the respective districts with them.

It stands to reason that people who would lead would want to find solutions to the problems that drive tax-hungry political budgets.

So tonight I am anxious. Anxious about the outcome of more than just the presidency. We'll wait. And see.
