The Dark Knight

I cannot express enough how excited I am for the new Batman coming out in July, "The Dark Knight."

Christian Bale is back as Batman, and I can't wait to see the late Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker. The Joker is demented in this one (even more than Jack Nicholson's version), and I remember watching interviews with Ledger where he said he was  having trouble sleeping during this role because the character is so twisted and evil.

I love that they're re-doing the Batmans, and doing them the way that they were intended. Tim Burton had the right idea with the first Batman, but the movies just went downhill after that. By the third and the fourth installments, the movies just became silly. I like how they're doing them serious this time around, probably how DC Comics meant for the story of Batman to be portrayed, anyway.

From what I've read, Christian Bale is signed on for at least three Batmans, meaning there probably will be at least one more to come after "The Dark Knight." I watched a preview that shows Harvey Dent (aka Two-Face) is a part of "The Dark Knight," as well. There are rumors that after Heath Ledger passed away, they changed the ending of "The Dark Knight" to have Harvey Dent become Two-Face -- leaving room for a third installment with Two-Face as the villain.

I'd love to see them make many more Batmans, as long as they keep the same feeling they seem to be shooting for with "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight." There's many villains that would be great characters with the new serious, gothic tone the Batman movies are now being given. The Penguin, The Riddler, Cat Woman, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and on and on and on. As long as they don't go the George Clooney route, these could be some great movies.

And what about the possibility of bringing Tim Burton back to collaborate or even direct one of the future Batman movies? Wow ... now that would be amazing.
