Too busy for words; too many thoughts to not remember
September 23, 2009 - LLee Janssen
It's been way too long since I've written, my niece Kendra recently reminded me.
Guilty, I admit. It's not that I haven't wanted to; rather too much competition for my time.
It happens each summer and probably to all of us when our colleagues take vacation and every week somebody is missing from action, and deservedly so. By the time that crunch ends, we wake up and it's fall.
Summer was just a dream.
And that last week was as jam-packed as any. The highlight: Akron/Family's show at Site: B. (Okay, you knew I was going to get to that eventually ... so why beat around the bush?)
Momma needed her fix. So did the other local Band Mother. And quite the fix it was ... though it may have been largely lost on Williamsport. That's okay, though, as the small crowd was quite appreciative, and the band played as hard and as well as any festival that attracted a crowd a couple thousand strong.
What made it extra special was that I was able to take my niece who had long wanted to hear her cousin live.
The next day, as I sat with Dana on the porch while he awaited his ride to the next show, I asked if he was disappointed in the turnout. Actually, he was pleasantly surprised that 102 people from around here turned out and paid to hear their show, along with the three other bands who traveled here from New York and Finland.
Such optimism, I love. Such positivity, how blessed. Attributes that must play a role in the success of these young men from Williamsport who only want to make people happy with their joyful sound.
Now they are off to Spain, then back. To Europe, for another month. Then to Australia, in December. Just keep Williamsport within reach, so local band mommas can get their hugs and see for themselves that these young guys are safe, healthy and sound.
