Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

December 20, 2010 - Cheryl Clarke
Such a lot of fuss over greeting people the way we have always done it this time of year. I have read many news stories about businesses and groups having a hissy fit over the saying of "Merry Christmas," some even forbidding their employees to say it. I always say, Merry Christmas, usually without even thinking about it, and if those in earshot don't like it, they can ignore it. After all, it is the birthday of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ, we are celebrating, why shouldn't we say Merry Christmas to celebrate and to show our warm holiday wishes to those to whom we say it. Every year this seemingly innocuous statement seems to set some people off, and each year it gets worse even than the year before. I spent most of my life in church, nearly 20 years of it in music ministry, and I know the power of the Name, but when people have such a reaction to it as is seen in these modern times, it makes me even more aware of how much evil there is in the world. I can only pray that the Lord leaves His Holy Spirit in this dark world as long as possible, because I can't imagine how terrible it would be without Him. Thank You for coming into the world, Jesus, Light of the World. Immanuel, God with Us, stay by our sides, we pray. My prayer is let there be Peace on Earth and Good Will toward all, Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year!
