An innovative product, developed about a decade ago, not only reduced the amount of energy used to operate the product but also earned L-3 Communications in Loyalsock Township an Emmy Award. The company received the award for the Constant Efficiency Amplifier, which is a transmitting tube used to send digital television signals over the air, according to Buzz Miklos, director of sales and marketing. “The reason that this product was awarded and is so successful is that it is a green technology,” Miklos said. “It uses less energy.” The product uses about half the energy used in its counterparts. “We have 10 years of history that demonstrates that this is actually a money-saving product. Basically it comes right down to how much electricity was being used. This product used 50 percent less energy than the previous transmitting tubes that were in existence for the previous 20 years,” Miklos said. Over time, the savings add up.
