‘Wool Day’ to benefit Relay for Life
MANSFIELD — Visitors will have a chance to see where wool yarn comes from during Yorkshire Meadows “Wool Day” on May 17.
Shop owner Liz McLelland, locally known for her “homespun” wool and yarn, said several events are planned during the day to support the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, scheduled this year for June 27 to 28 at the university track.
McLelland said the loss of her best friend, her sister-in-law, brother-in-law and mother-in-law to cancer is a reason she has dedicated this year’s event to the relay, which benefits cancer patients and research.
Featured will be a “sheep to shawl” demonstration by the Danville Junior team, the Fort Freeland Flickers, who won the Junior State Championship at the Pennsylvania Farm Show earlier this year.
“Their shawl was auctioned off for $500 at the farm show,” she said.
