Sullivan girls earn their playoff trip

MONTGOMERY — In the years since every member of the Sullivan County girls basketball team was born, the internet has flourished and cell phone usage exploded. Two George Bushes have been President and the once sad-sack New England Patriots became a dynasty. During that same time and an era of change, there was one constant in Laporte and that was the school’s girls basketball team never reaching the playoffs. It was with that backdrop that a determined group of underclassmen entered the 2009-2010 season eager to make history. They wanted to be trail blazers and now that mission has been accomplished. Sullivan County played its usual style of team-oriented basketball Monday and led from the first quarter on, defeating Montgomery, 43-38 and clinching the program’s first playoff spot since 1992.
