KNOXVILLE — Thursday’s snowstorm didn’t prevent the demolition of a two-story building that burned earlier this week.
‘‘They’ll be hauling it away Monday,’’ said Knoxville Fire Chief Dutch Bloom of the rubble from 101 Main St.
The blaze, which occurred Monday afternoon, left three families homeless and a business, Penn York Tax Service, without an office. The owner of the building, Louise Simon of Chatham Township, said she doesn’t plan to rebuild.
The cause was a candle in a closet that an unidentified 16-year-old tenant was using for light, according to Bloom.
About 11 fire departments responded to the fire at the corner of Main and North Water streets in the small Tioga County borough shortly after 1 p.m.
