I understand that Philadelphia is looking at closing some school buildings down because student attendance has fallen significantly. Maybe these can be converted to a low security type facility for the less violent offenders and they can be relocated there.

There is a thing called The Freedom of Information Act, to which Pennsylvanians haven't fully awoken up to yet. Everyday, some reporter from this paper should go around to every police dept, gather arrest records and MUGSHOTS, and put it in the next days internet front page. Crime will go down, I'll bet my tiki hut on that.

I think we disagree on what should be considered a threat Jack. Most 'minor drug charges' start out that way. Then they get put back on the street to commit bigger crimes, usually, but not always drug related. Z3932z said it best, people go to prison for breaking the law. That IS logical. What we need to ship some of the inmates back to 'origin cities', such as Philadelphia and other areas and let those cities deal with the problems, preferrably AFTER sentencing as part of an inmate transfer, so the said cities are not just being given a 'street walking criminal'. Fact is however there are just so many criminals that no matter what you do, there's always going to be an overwhelming amount of them in each prison, space is always going to be an issue. As far as your 'sleeping under the stairs' comment...I find that hard to believe.

You should worry adout the town you live in and keep your nose out of our business. Our Police force is grossly understaffed. No one ever thinks about tha safety of the officers.

To Mrshaman:

I agree that I am not old enough to remember. Neither are those commiting the "crimes" of today.

MAYBE if they had the "break the law and your dead" card laying in front of them then MAYBE they'd think twice ... MAYBE." - Zippie

Yeah...that tactic worked so "well", during the days o' alcohol-Prohibition.

...And, LACKING that scenario...all "good" Christians/"conservatives" will dig thru their "good book", until they can FIND more reasons to INCREASE our "criminal" head-count!!

I can't believe the number of idiots in this area who believe that the 'war on drugs' is worth a single penny spent on it! IT FAILED! You can't declare war on a concept.

Some people are clueless. I rarely see anyone go to prison for minor drug offenses like possession or paraphernalia. If they do then it is likely a 3rd or 4th offense. Arts and small business, are you serious? Have you seen our inmates? The only thing small business would help is there would be more places for these idiots to rob. And art? Where are you from. People are sent to prison as punishment for breaking the law. I say build a bigger prison and make it a horrible place to be with crappy food, water, and no luxuries. The inmates should work to pay their cell rent.
