Today my guns and about sixty-five million other guns did not harm anybody. Can we say the same thing about criminals, gangs, and "challenged" people? Only people kill with guns....

I'm not sure why guns are not considered private property and thus protected by the Constitution. However, the Constitution is not being honored like our Founding Fathers intended.

The First Amendment, where protestors have to navigate their way through a barrage of bureaucratic red tape to peaceably assemble. The fourth amendment is being shattered by illegal wiretapping and warrantless searches and seizures. The Sixth and Seventh amendments are nonexistent due to the possibility of American citizens being arrested and detained without a trial by jury by the military. The Eighth Amendment was destroyed by G.W. and extended by Obama with "extraordinary rendition". Perhaps the entire Bill of Rights needs defended and not just one aspect.

Your home can be taken by eminent domain. I would rather lose a gun than my house. The previous post is correct. All amendments have had some degree of adulteration. We either agree the Constitution is strictly confined or that changes can be made to suit the times.

Maybe we should ban cars. Better yet, maybe we should just ban people.

Not much wiggle room in "the right to bear arms..."

Hayes,

"If guns don't kill Weigle, then go hunting with only a knife."

A mind that uses these types of rationales, is suspect to being more destructive than any weapon devised by man. The subject is not hunting..stay focused...quit using straw man arguments.

Great LTR Mr. Weigle

" A mind that uses these types of rationales..."

That is the same rationale that the letter writer is using.

There are about 300 million guns I'm the US. since the letter writer states only about 65 million guns didn't harm any one today, does that man 235 million guns did?

Excellent letter from the writer. Hayes, states "If guns don't kill Weigle, then go hunting with only a knife." Guns don't go hunting by themselves, a human being has to carry it and actually load it and pull the trigger and actually hit his mark to "kill." Another stupid remark from a brainless left-winger. I really do wish these anti-Constitution radicals would go find another country to live in. There are many socialist countries where they have no guns. Try Cuba maybe??

CHayes The gun didn't do the killing the person pulling the trigger did the killing. If you layed a gun in the woods it wouldn't just start shooting things. Someone has to pull the trigger. With your logic pencils mispell words and cars drive to fast.

I get the point of the article and I agree with that point. I also get the point of the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" sentiment, as well as something I've said myself to sort of add to that, "People kill people with guns". Hypothetically speaking, if you got rid of all the guns in the enire world or if they had never existed criminals would kill people with swords and knives. If you got rid of all the swords and knives in the word..well perhaps people would kill people with shards of glass (for the sake of this argument and those who are overdramatic, I'm going to pretend like bombs, missles, tanks, bazooka's, etc. etc. fall into the category of guns..they are firing weapons after all) the point is, while yes people kill people with the use of guns, people can kill people with virtually anything they want. They could beat people to death. So whether we agree or not on gun control and security measures the fact is mental health is where solutions

Guns are weapons, they are used to kill. Just because you did not today doesn't mean you won't tomorrow.

And a hand grenade won't go off if you don't pull the pin. Does that mean that Sheetz should start selling them?

Shempp, your choice of phrasing is rather terrible.

"Your guns and the 65 million guns belonging to your closest friends still leave 135 million guns unaccounted for"

"there were 47,856 people were murdered in the U.S. by firearms between 2006 and 2010. That's roughly 12 thousand per year. (Still got your shoes off?)"

"Your guns might not be killing people, but someone's guns are. "

My first question: Mass shootings aside (not saying they don't matter but I'm making a point) How many of those murders occur in cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, & New York City, just curious, I bet that # is high too.

Second Question: Do you think talking to people like they're all idiots is going to make them respect your opinion or even listen to it?

3rd Question; Based on your choice of phrasing you are saying that there is 135 million guns that can walk and have opposable thumbs. They walk right out of their house and shoot people;

-continued-

that in no way shape or form does it require a human being who is either disturbed or plain evil to USE a gun to kill, the gun or other choice of weaponry just does it all by itself.

Stop being so naive and narrow minded.

The issue people need to wrap their mind around is this: Gun violence requires to things. 1) A human being 2)A firearm. That human being may not be right in the head, heart, or whatever, but it does require a living breathing person. But it ALSO requires a gun. Knife violence, biochemical violence, etc. they all require a said weapon. So at least to an extent the whole "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" and as I've suggested "People kill people with guns" holds even less merit unless you're willing to accept that both statements exist in unification with each other.

It’s a fact that more people are killed with blunt instruments than guns.

"Hayes and Reeder: The both of you sound like broken records. I'll bet family get togethers are a real hoot."

They are on my Mom's side they have their guns and pot and moonshine. Nothing like KY hill folk. Get to eat squirrel, rabbit, venison and other critters along with grits, greens and fresh grown veggies.

My Dad's family was all about fishing and water activities and cooking out in the outdoors. They also hunted.

So yeah growing up family reunions were a hoot.

Got news for you Reeder, you better run and hide. I have a concealed carry permit and I happen to cherish my guns. I am afraid if the dictator tries to take all the weapons away from this country, he will be biting off more than he can chew. I don't think people will just lay down their guns and go crawl under a rock like you might think. If there is a civil war, I would rather be holding a gun than tanding there with my head between my legs like you will be.
