What history will sayJanuary 10, 2013History will no doubt define the progressive period as a time when intellectuals and their followers dismantled what has proven to work in favor of what makes them feel good but has always proven to...... Showing 25 of 27 comments Show More Comments

I do not think so Mr. Bross. I referenced that before, but no response. Progressive education is what always comes to my mind, esp. in scientific terms. I think some of these posters take the words such as conservatives, liberals, etc. out of context.

I know that the term "progressive" has a long history in our country. Here is one definition I found, "The Progressives strongly supported scientific methods as applied to economics, government, industry, finance, medicine, schooling, theology, education, and even the family. They closely followed advances underway at the time in Western Europe[8] and adopted numerous policies, such as the banking laws which became the Federal Reserve System in 1913." Is this an accurate definition? And is this the definition being used today?

What is needed is a lot less shakers and a whole lot more movers Luey. Testing the brackish waters is proving failure within our governments. History is only as good as its writers and teachers, you are spot on Vince.

“It is not progressives who failed it is the undermining conservatives and libertarians who failed. It is the tightfisted money hungry wealthy who will choke this country to death and destroy everything and everyone in their path.”
Chuck, give us an example where Capitalism and individual right has led to failure and one where collectivism has led to success. Anyone agreeing with Chuck is welcome to pitch in with an example.
It’s the wealth of Capitalism that provides the funds to support the welfare state that’s trying to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

So, what are you saying Troy? That equal rights and opportunity for success isn't enough?
Personally, I couldn't feel good about myself if I had to live off the backs of others because I didn't have the ambition to apply myself and look for opportunities to advance. Liberals think our constitution guarantees equal results.

Bobbie - that's the wonderfulness of Liberalism! They never have to show results for their programs. If Liberalism failed in the past it's only because it wasn't done right or done enough. It's never the actual Liberal idea that was the reason for failure. It's always something else.
I guess that's because they can't point to any actual successes of their programs - unless you count record numbers of people on food stamps or 300,000+ abortions done by Planned Parenthood as a Liberal success.

The ideology underlying progressivism has historically led to equality all right; everyone ends up equally poor except the chosen few. I see no reason to believe it won’t eventually fail here too. Whoever ends up taking over will write the history, but if they’re true historians, they’ll ask why we replaced a system that built the wealthiest and strongest nation in history with one that has always failed.

Curious as to which country in history that adopted progressive ideals has survived.

Chuck,"History is going to show how the selfishness and greediness of conservatism and libertarianism ruined this nation."
The country is going to die from entitlement spending. I think that would be the selfishness and greed of the entitled. Most of the revenue the government takes in is from those rich people you demonize. The rest comes from people like me who go to work everyday to support myself and my family rather than stand around with my hand out. I am even willing to forgo some of the benefits I have paid for all my life in order to save the country, but those who have done nothing won't contribute a thing and continue to demand that we give them more. So you're saying that people who want to keep what they worked for are greedy but the ones who demand more of what they didn't work for are just fine. If that's how you feel, why don't you give up everything you've worked for to help someone who won't work?

Why do we give our criminals a stable environment to live in after they instantly gratified themselves? We reward the dog for pooping in the house??

Libertarian to want EVERYONE to have rights and equality? Interesting point of view. I don't put a political label on that. I just call it 'life'.

Knew who wrote this even before looking who did.
Another baseless libertarian rant. History is going to show how the selfishness and greediness of conservatism and libertarianism ruined this nation.

Sounds like some of that "magical thinking" you're always talking about Phil. Unless you really can peer into the future to know how history will be written.

Conservitives want to take us back to the time when white males owned and controlled everything.
It doesn't get much sillier than that.

Yes, everything should be the way it was. We need to go black in time where only a certain group of people had rights. We could go further back and stone a woman because she did something her husband disliked. No thanks, I would rather move forward than regress to the past.

Sorry Phil, no it won't. In a perfect world this sentiment would be true but as long as the Liberals are writing, and most importantly TEACHING, the history, this truth will never be widely told. Too bad honest evaluation of Liberal programs doesn't happen in the media or in the classroom.
It's all Bush's fault anyway. Obama, who art in heaven, told me so.
