"They did not limit these arms to hunting and sporting guns, but specifically wanted the people to own and be proficient with military style weapons."

Are you trying to say that the drafters of the Constitution loved AK47's? You understand that in 1789, a "military style weapon" was a musket, right?

1789 military style weapons? I never thought of it that way. I sure would like a cannon or mortar from 1789. Anybody have a decent 16 pounder they want to trade for a slightly used AR-15?

No, what we re saying is that the Government didn't ban the musket, the most technologically advance rifle of it's time, from the people. The weapons of today we are talking about banning aren't the most technologically advanced rifle, they are a semiautomatic look alike version of the automatic rifle used by the military.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Assualt rifles are select fire. That means you can "select" fully automatic or semi automative mode.

Biden and Cuomo both admitted they own shotguns. The teen in Taft, CA used a shotgun. A shotgun at close range is much more effective than a semi-automatic AR-15. I can't believe that Cuomo and Biden own such instruments of death and destruction.

Biden and the white house are not competant in making decisions about gun laws. What ever happened to their fast and furious scandel. They believe they can just take our rights away. Certain states are already denying any federal gun laws that come into effect after 1/1/13.

Gimme a break, here. Just like he Bible, one twists the interpretation to meet one's own world view. Perfect example here. Thomas Jefferson wanted civilians armed with AK's and M16's?

"Biden and Cuomo both admitted they own shotguns." And? What's your point?

I like to target shoot with hand and long guns but I don't and will never own a military type weapon. I have no legitimate need and neither does any other civilian.

No one wants to ban guns. No one wants to destroy the 2nd amendment. We just want to make some sense and be responsible with gun ownership. The arguments coming from the right with these fear inducing statements tat Obama is out to disarm the public make no sense, are completely irresponsible, and are just plain falsehoods.

This a great letter of deception from the pro gun crowd.

Ghandi, "This quote refers to the British disarmament of the Indian Army. Gandhi never advocated the individual right to bear arms. - Gandhi, An Autobiography.” Jefferson never wrote those words it a variation of another writer which he had and is an incorrrect translation which was orginally in Latin.

So the pro gun crowd has to put words in other mouths and twist and mangle what they said.

What's my point? They both own guns that can kill people. They can defend themselves if they wish or hunt with them. Yet at the same time someone could steal their shotgun and murder with it. It's a lethal weapon.

"I have no legitimate need and neither does any other civilian". I target shoot with my AR just like you target shoot with your guns. I can also use it for defense if the need occurs. In several states besides PA, I can hunt with my AR. To me, those are legitimate reasons.

"gun free zones"

How is it that 18 and 19 year old high school students are denied their Constitutional right to bring their guns to school?

Francine,"I voted for him, but God forbid the President attempts to circumvent the constitution with an executive order."

You're a great example of why we're in such trouble in this country. For four years he has been circumventing the constitution and now, after re-electing him, you notice. Better late than never, I guess.

Chuck,"So the pro gun crowd has to put words in other mouths and twist and mangle what they said."

You might want to check your quotes Chuck. Ghandi was not in the habit of refering to himself in the third person as you have him doing in your "direct quote" from his autobiography. Or did you just pick this quote up from some blog somewhere? And, yes, that quote was by Jefferson, and even if it weren't, there are hundreds of other quotes from him that mean the same thing. If M16s had been available at the time, I bet Jefferson would have had one, and he'd have loved it.

You're right. As the law stands right now you ARE CURRENTLY forbidden to own a military style rifle.

You are permitted to own one that looks like one, but it operates completely different.

Why don't we all start with the facts.

Bubba, quit muddying the argument with facts. They don't want to hear that you can produce much more carnage by firing a shotgun into a crowd at close range (like a classroom???).

You better hide them. He (you know that guy that was not born in the USA and does not have college records) is coming. He will take your guns away, all of them. He will give them to the Mexican drug runners. He will strip the constitution and the bill of rights from you. Then he will take your churches over. He will kill your unborn. He will take all your money if you are wealthy. He will give that money to all the "parasites" in the country. He will make all the corporations he takes over union. And finally he will take over FOX so called news so the truth will finally be heard. There, that pretty much covers everything, now we can go on with our day. Anything else please chime in. Have a good day :-)

Yes and the correct name for the detachable devices is MAGAZINE not CLIP. I can understand that if you base your gun knowledge on Hollywood fiction, naturally you would refer to them improperly.
