Sacrificial lambs

January 13, 2013

Here we go again, the president, the liberals in Congress and the brain-dead Hollywood elite know what’s best for the rest of us. We need to ban assault weapons and large capacity magazines....

This is starting to get old. We all have our opinions. Nobody is going to change them. We all think we are right. Another shooting in Williamsport. Something needs to be done, what it is I don't know. Arguing here will not solve anything because it is the same thing over and over.

Very good letter, Paul. Also, did you know that Obama recently passed a new law giving all presidents secret service protection for the rest of their lives instead of the standard 10 years they had. I don't remember the exact year that the president would have been elected to be included in this new law, but I think it is early 1990's.

Those home invaders crashing through your door has been in too many cases the "law" making a bust at the wrong address. Which result is your dog is dead as well as you while you reach for your "protection". If it gets so bad "they" want our guns, they will just take 'em.

"He claims to stand for the "little guy" but under the proposed ban, only the rich would be able to have adequate protection, because only professional security guards could obtain the necessary license to be well armed. Average people would have to wait for the police to show up and investigate their murder." - Paul Rinker

Hmmmmmm...wouldn't this (one-MORE-time) be THE incentive for everyone to become rich...you know...rather than "lazin'-around" on Welfare??!!! Why should the rest-of-us have to INVEST (more) in law-enforcement, when there are folks...like you...too-lazy to finance your OWN security-team????

GET ANOTHER JOB!!!

What is it about right wingers that they live in such a constant state of abject terror?

"Oh my god! What's that sound?!? A bunch of people are coming to kill me!!!"

If you can't defend your home with a five shot pump action shotgun, and a 15 round pistol, then I don't know what to tell you. Unless you sit around on your couch with a loaded assault rifle on your lap, and a large group of home invaders force their way into your house, you're going to get robbed anyway. And if you're current inclination is to sit on your couch, with a loaded rifle on your lap, you should probably seek mental health assistance.

"Say my family is home in bed when we hear a group of home invaders crashing through the back door. Without a "high capacity" magazine, I will not have sufficient fire power to stop them from killing my entire family."

OK, first of all, there is a reason they're called "home invasion robberies", and not "home invasion murders". People that do these crimes are there to rob you, not "kill your entire family".

What is it about left wingers that they live in such a constant state of abject terror? They are so afraid of the look of the weapon that they throw common sense out the window and don't care that the operating system is no different than an ordinary legal hunting rifle.

No, Don 521 got it wrong. They want to ban what I currently own or can purchase. If people where upset about not being able to purchase a missile, then this debate would have been occuring for decades.

Here we go again, there have been thirty-one mass killings since Columbine. If we do nothing, there will be thirty-one more and then thirty-one more and then thirty-one more.

We are not powerless to fix this and if we again do nothing then we will have only ourselves to blame for the outcome.

Ya'all are watching to many ADT commercials.

When was the last time you or anybody you knew had a home invasion? How about just confronting somebody on your property while holding the weapon.

You can talk about the right to gun ownership without the paranoid "I might need it for self defense" bs.

Mr. Rinker there are members of the NRA who also agree that there should be a ban on cetain guns. The NRA at one time backed legislation banning certain guns from the public. This is not liberals against everyone else.

The last time I heard, only Congress, not the president, can pass a law. The president has the right to introduce a bill, sign it into law, or to veto one which has been passed by Congress.

How many of those shootings do you suppose would not have happened if we had an assault weapons ban already in place?

Just a quick clue, the first 4 after Columbine were committed while a assault weapons ban was already in place, and the majority of the rest would not have been affected by an assault weapons ban.

Now let's start some real dialogue.

All this flap about high capacity magazines. In Vietnam, a little duct tape was used to fix one standard cpacity magazine, side-to-side, to another to produce what everyone is trying to ban these days. Crude, but effective at the time, during the craziness that came with fire-fights.

What defines a mass killing? That number cannot include gang related drive by shootings in the gun control utopia of Chicago.

I own a Bushmaster semiautomatic rifle that I bought in 2002 while the ban was in force. I bought it after the attacks on New York and Washington with the belief that I wanted to at least have a slight chance of protecting my family, my home and my nation in case the attacks on us became more prevalent. It was an uncertain time in America but I find the current situation to be much more volatile in the way that we the people of America are forming up on opposite sides about to lay down some ultimatums that could just be the catalyst needed to push us in to that fight I dread. My weapon has not been fired in years, but it stands at the ready to continue to defend the Carriage lives of my family, my home and my country, whether it be a foreign or domestic enemy!

Now, how is confiscating my lawfully obtained semiautomatic rifle with 30 round clips going to make anyone anyone safer?

Because of the reasons Ted has mentioned, I know several people who have recently purchased their first firearm. Some of you may consider them "right wing extremist gun nuts" but they are not. Some of them consider themselves liberals and voted for Obama twice.
