A secured gun is of no use against a home invader. A piece loaded with double 00 and in reach is.

richardson, absolutely correct. Guns in a locked gun cabinet, or secured with a trigger lock afford no protection except for the criminal. Gun control is knowing how and when to use a gun.

"Gun control is knowing how and when to use a gun."

You protect the rights of people who don't and I am referring to good guys.

How about criminal control instead? Look at Chicago. They have strict gun control laws, yet they've had as many or more murders so far this year than days in the year. And it's not law abiding, legal gun owners committing the murders.

I may not have the latest news, but it was my understanding that the Newtown killer was not denied a weapon. He just didn't want to wait for the three day waiting period. Ironically, he waited three days before he attacked the school anyway. So much for the "cool-down" period.

Chuck, Stupid people still have 1st Amendment rights, why should someone have to be a professional shooter to have 2nd Amendment rights? I would rather that everyone who owns a gun be trained in it's proper use, but that would infringe on their rights, just like saying that people I don't agree with shouldn't be allowed to talk. I understand that as a liberal, other people's rights are a foreign thought to you, but you might want to consider that to others, you are other people.

I agree with the changes to laws part of your letter. But here's the problem. It's not that difficult to lie on a form. I think people need to undergo an actual psych evaluation before they are allowed to purchase a firearm.
