I agree that the letter writer could have done a better job expressing his ideas. Still, I think he does have a point. On another note, I do think the term, sock puppet, is funny. Just don't use the puppet to beat on other people.

Interesting. The letter was so poorly written that not one person commenting so far has even mentioned what the author was talking about. I must say I did see some interesting information in the comments though.
Just for your own info MrShaman, Relene has been caught here in the past using a sock puppet to post. That was before your time here, so I thought I should call it to your attention.
"Oh, and as to Sham's posts? Some on here believe this is about a previous poster with the initials JH who has contrived an alias...no proof..just speculation.."
Strange accusation to be coming from the ONLY person that's posted on this thread thus far, that's been caught RED HANDED using a sock puppet here in the past. Right Relene?
Someday on a morning/early afternoon moment in time....if you drink coffee...stop by SB's at Basin St....and ask to say hello to the frequent visitor named Mr. Long....engage him in conversation. I think you might enjoy yourself. Have a good day!

"Saw an article the other day on China's smog in major cities; they are where the US was 50 years ago. They need to catch up."
The coal industry made it's money and left, now who is cleaning it up? There are pictures from the past of our area of bare mountains, stripped of all trees. What do we have to show for it? Decaying mansions of the once wealthy that moved on when the trees were gone. This is why we have regulations and laws to protect the people. Those very same regulations the right like to say is killing our economy. This is why they want to get rid of the EPA. Why should we go back? There is an industry in our area now that would love to self regulate and return us to what the letter writer is pointing out.
One of the biggest contaminators is the federal government. Many of the military and other sites have huge amounts of fuel and chemical waste and pollution in the soils and underlying aquifers.
There also has been much waste and pollution from various industrial and manufacturing sites over the last century.
Through testing and experimentation, we have been able to find the negative impacts to people's lives and this has lead to increased regulation, changes in mind sets and changes in working practices to reduce this. Engineers have changed designs and improved practices to significantly reduce the impacts.

Thank you Mr. Reeder.
One of the 2nd largest environmental awards ever giving was against Chevron for $19 Billion in damages for contamination of the Amazon Rainforest.
Chevron bought Texaco in 2001, between 1964 and 2001 Texaco dumped more than 16 billion gallons of oily toxic waste into the Amazon.
Chevron argues that paying this judgement will cause the company "Irreparable harm".
