Freedom equals responsibilityJanuary 16, 2013With our freedoms come responsibilities. When we ask our Government to limit our responsibility, we lose our freedom. Gavin T.... Showing 25 of 36 comments Show More Comments

If your looking for obama records beside most debt, Jerry, perhaps we could count most beer summits or taking the advice of school children to write laws. Maybe he is the President who has the most friends that are terrorist bombers or has the most members of an administration that dodges paying taxes. I guess we could go on and on with his proud accomplishments.

" John F. Kennedy seems to win the prize for biggest tax cut, at least in the last half century. By the same measure, the income tax provisions of George W. Bush tax cuts are more than twice as large as Obama’s tax cut over the same three-year time span. Obama’s claim of having passed the “biggest middle-class tax cut in history” is ridiculous. He might have been on more solid ground if he had claimed the “broadest” tax cut, "

Carlitos "Sorry Cheyenne but your side is very irresponsible."
Let's see, no budget in 4 years, $ billions in failed solar panel industries, installed muslum brotherhood in the Mid East, $16 trillion in debt, gas prices double, credit rating in the dumper, ambassadors being slaughtered around the world, what an administration to emulate.

"Especially this administration that owes it's very existence to the votes of the irresponsible seeking a nanny"--Cheyenne

I can anticipate the response....
BHO is the great avenger swooping in to help the oppressed, the wronged. He is the Robin Hood that takes from the evil rich people and gives to those that have been disadvantaged. He is the purveyor of justice in an unjust society. He is the hope that restores salvation. He takes away the advantages that the capitalists extorted. He is the messiah. He cares for me and he speaks so eloquently with flowery words that make me feel good.
And in the next breath.....I didn't think my payroll taxes were going up; I thought the rich were going to pay for it. I am so mad at the republicans and George Bush.

I think the trade off between responsibilities and freedoms revolves around convenience. In return for some convenience we give up some independence. Privacy comes to mind. This is not always a bad thing, we just need to be aware that such a trade off exists.

Chuck,"Those who keep saying small government have small brains."
Actually, it's people who say stupid things like this that have small brains. Come on Chuck, you're not as dumb as you pretend to be, are you? People who love freedom and aren't afraid to rely on themselves want small government and those who are afraid they can't make it on their own are willing to give up their freedom to a big government. I love freedom, so I want small government. OOPS, now Chuck is going to think I have a small brain.

Gavin, no one wants to take responsibility for electing the wrong people or actually having to take ownership in their bad choices. When our freedoms become restricted for real, just remember to thank those responsible. That's right, all those disagreeing to your LTE.

I also think we should have the RIGHT to work, not the requirement. By that I mean, this should be a 'Right to Work' state. We should not to pay for the 'right' to work and then have to pay taxes because we work. Working should not be a privilege it should be a right. No one feels 'privileged' to work and pay taxes.

To an extent, I agree with the letter. But if you're specifically talking about taxes, I have to disagree a little too. I think Americans far exceed meeting the means of their responsibility. Furthermore where is the responsibility of the government when it comes to spending? Spending money far exceeds its means in the government, which is why our national deficit is so high. That door of freedom and responsibility swings both ways.

For Big Government, any opportunity to grow larger and limit freedoms is a good thing.
