After NY State passed their gun laws yesterday, I guess that I need to renew my NRA membership since it expired about 20 or 25 years ago.

Maybe I will encourage each one of my family members to buy one too......or I may consider buying the first year for them.

Government gone wild.

Governments sometimes get to the point where they put laws in place that prevent people from their natural rights as humans.

Gavin, on a separate note; did you get your book late last year?

Sorry but it does not mean that government can ignore the irresposible, just because you have freedoms. Government should not be ignoring it's responsiblity just because you say freedoms.

I think I should have the right to see a*****on TV during the half time of a football game, but instead I have the right to see people's faces blown off. Something is wrong here.

You have the right to see that in the privacy of your home. Larry Flint made sure of that.

For Big Government, any opportunity to grow larger and limit freedoms is a good thing.

To an extent, I agree with the letter. But if you're specifically talking about taxes, I have to disagree a little too. I think Americans far exceed meeting the means of their responsibility. Furthermore where is the responsibility of the government when it comes to spending? Spending money far exceeds its means in the government, which is why our national deficit is so high. That door of freedom and responsibility swings both ways.

I also think we should have the RIGHT to work, not the requirement. By that I mean, this should be a 'Right to Work' state. We should not to pay for the 'right' to work and then have to pay taxes because we work. Working should not be a privilege it should be a right. No one feels 'privileged' to work and pay taxes.

"The People vs. Larry Flynt" is one of my all time favorite movies. Just awesome film.

Gavin, no one wants to take responsibility for electing the wrong people or actually having to take ownership in their bad choices. When our freedoms become restricted for real, just remember to thank those responsible. That's right, all those disagreeing to your LTE.

Chuck,"Those who keep saying small government have small brains."

Actually, it's people who say stupid things like this that have small brains. Come on Chuck, you're not as dumb as you pretend to be, are you? People who love freedom and aren't afraid to rely on themselves want small government and those who are afraid they can't make it on their own are willing to give up their freedom to a big government. I love freedom, so I want small government. OOPS, now Chuck is going to think I have a small brain.

I think the trade off between responsibilities and freedoms revolves around convenience. In return for some convenience we give up some independence. Privacy comes to mind. This is not always a bad thing, we just need to be aware that such a trade off exists.
