I'll try this again. This time with some proofreading. Here goes:Another thought regarding the value of arms and gaining freedom. Syria and Libya have been held up as examples of the value of armed citizens. And they are good examples. But, then we have Egypt and there the use of weapons was almost, if not completely, nonexistent. And in Egypt, there was a much more democratic society compared to Libya and Syria prior to the start of their respective revolutions. So, if a fairly restrictive society such as Egypt's can bring about change in a fairly peaceful fashion, then the talk here about weapons to protect us from the government seems premature at best.

rick424-"Sorry mike almost all polls indicate people want something done. Also weapon sales are up mostly because people have this fear the end is near."
I guess it depends on the 'something' that 'needs' to be done. I don't think the polls that ask specifically if weapons should be banned are showing majority support for bans on weapons.
Wow, here's a first on this blog: Left and Right agree! "I know mrshaman. But he changed. He was not that way before. I seriously think he is clock tower material." You're correct Rick424. "A Williamsport man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly pointing a loaded handgun at his wife during a disturbance at the couple's home. Police say 68-year-old John Hilfirty, allegedly told his wife he would shoot her as he pointed the weapon at her about 5:40 a.m." And thank you Bobbie2 for proving Rick424 correct.
Hi enigma.. all I did is ask for a source. You could have simply replied foxnews, cbs, the drudge report, or whereever you did glean the information. Given your response as worded, I can't help but doubt the validity if the claims. I don't have a problem, that I am aware of, in citing the source, be it Dawkins, Suskind or any other author or news source. No big deal, have you had a chance to purchase and donate the book the case for a creator to green free, as you said you would?
Buff,"I am curious to know the basis for that particular comment.. "
I don't believe that for a second. Given your self proclaimed penchant for reading and research, I would expect you to be able to find them yourself. and even not willing to accept the sources I would give.
Hi enigma.. regarding your comment below about home schoolers, mass murderers politics and nra membership, I'd like to ask what the source is for those claims. Believing your self proclaimed penchant for research, I am curious to know the basis for that particular comment..
I thought you were an educated man. {Oh, darn. You almost give me a compliment, and then you took it back by using the past tense!!!} You have just described the Revolutionary War and we all know how that turned out. The colonists were outgunned, and divided, but freedom was still won. More modern examples are Libya and what's happening now in Syria.{Libya and Syria had no mechanism for people to make their wishes known. We do. We can vote. If the end result of fighting to get the right to vote means we end up fighting again just like we did before we had the vote, then I say screw the whole thing and I'm going to go live in a cave!}
You do know that those home-schooled kiddies do much better on college entrance exams than those indoctrinated in the public schools don't you? There has also never been a mass shooter who was home schooled. It's also interesting that none of these shooters has been an NRA member, and the vast majority are progressive Democrats. Maybe we should only allow Republicans and NRA members to have guns.
CHayes,"The British had muskets, the colonists had muskets."
Thank you so much for trying to make my point about the Second Amendment for me. We should be permitted to have any weapon the military has.
But sadly, you are wrong. The rifles may have been the same, but the British had cannons and a navy that the colonists did not have. Knowing that you would make this ignorant claim I included Libya and Syria, because in both of those cases the government did outgun the people. Silly leftist, facts don't change just because you don't like them.
"You have just described the Revolutionary War and we all know how that turned out. The colonists were outgunned"
Outgunned? The British had muskets, the colonists had muskets. The British also thought it was a great idea to walk through the woods in bright red uniforms, and had a 3500 mile long supply line before there were cargo planes.
DavidBross,"First, the citizenry is vastly out gunned, out tanked, out planed etc. Second, our country is so divided that it won't be the citizens against the government. It will be ordinary citizens against other ordinary citizens."
I thought you were an educated man. You have just described the Revolutionary War and we all know how that turned out. The colonists were outgunned, and divided, but freedom was still won. More modern examples are Libya and what's happening now in Syria. That's the real reason behind the push for gun control. It has nothing to do with the safety of the citizens and everything to do with the safety of the government.
Just an educated observation - not all conservatives getting permits and guns, yes, the lefties are also buying handguns. The righties are getting a bit too crazy.
