A useful idea. But poorly presented if the goal is a serious discussion.

My husband works in a local Federal Prison. Federal Employees are already on a pay freeze and now Marino wants them to freeze on hiring as well? No promotions, no raise, no end to working short staffed,no end to the mandated...what incentive is there for these employees? You know the ones that are protecting us from the hardest criminals in the country. Hiring freeze is not an option!!! I agree with looking for a way to decrease the Federal debt, but not this way. It is very easy for Marino to suggest such being high man on the totem pole, but it is the low man that it affects.

A freeze may not prevent the government from hiring Personal Services Contractors or 3rd party contractors. The cost of 3rd party contractors can be MUCH more than GS employees. By the way - I'm a Civil Servant.

Pretty good for someone who gets paid by the same. I get mine and stay employed but you won't!

i think the federal people including the representatives and congressmen and women need a PAY FREEZE.. and, take one of their paychecks, all of them because you know they can afford this... and put it towards the debt, but, they have to quit spending and raising the debt before anything put towards it is going to help..

"Obama taxes the American people", where does he think the money comes from to run the Federal Gov. and why do they, like Marino keep saying, "Obama put us in a 17 trillion dollar hole", when Bush left office the debt was 11 trillion already. It just that the "House" keeps saying,NO to everything President Obama puts on the table? This is the reason nothing gets done except to make the President appear to be doing nothing. Let me tie your hands behind you back and tell you to drive a car!! Thank God for the TEA PARTY, they're killing the republican party!"Rock on Tea Party!"

No incentive for federal prison employee's montgomery? Really? I know its frustrating working in the prison with all the hours they work. I know many prison workers myself, but how much money do they make? Like 30 bucks an hour and time and a half and double time for their overtime. Yeah that doenst sound enticing to me either. Neither does putting your 20-25 years in and retiring full pension when your in your 50's. Im sorry, put people need to get real here. Were spending ourselves into oblivion. Prison employee's are a minority in the entire federal employee coalition. I think marino knows this and is looking to prevent waste and jobs created for cronies.

We're in a never-ending "War on Terror." Even if it passed, the bill would never take effect.

""Everybody knows why we need to do this, but he doesn't care," Marino continued. "In four years we're going to be bankrupt and in four years he's going to be out of here and make lots of money."

Does Tom Marino really expect us to believe the President's motives are for his own personal financial gain? We have real, SERIOUS hurdles to overcome in this country and sending completely clueless people to Congress just makes it worse.

Someone needs to primary this guy.

I voted for Democrats, Republicans and a third party candidate. Not that it is any of your business.

It is noteworthy the unemployment rate in PA is above the national average and the guy we've sent to Congress to represent us proposes changing the law to stop hiring.

Let that sink in.
