I'm quite certain that the non-profit organization called the Williamsport Ice Arena was formed by the owner of the Outlaws. It's a legal entity whose only purpose is to shield The Outlaws from legal responsibilities such as paying their bills. If the Williamsport Ice Arena stiffs the city of Williamsport, The Outlaws continue on as if they never owed the money. In other words, the city has no legal recourse with The Outlaws should the Outlaws do what Outlaws do, not pay their bills. And while I'm at it, Pickelner Arena/ Schmickelner Arena!!

I thought the bond was an upfront document that was required to be in place before any permission to use the field was given. Also, I thought all bills (utilities, for example) were the direct responsibility of the the hockey team to the vendor/supplier. I didn't realize the city was the ultimate payer for such bills. It just doesn't sound as clear cut as it did when first presented.

Why won't the Mayor release the name of the nonprofit group is he hiding something? Some of his cronies!

wow the CITY has to pay for this??? then the CITY board people should be the ones footing it out of their paychecks for allowing this to go on without thoroughly looking at all the paperwork, you wonder why taxes went UP in the CITY???

Biobabycj, of course someone is receiving a paycheck for running the skating program, the concession stand, etc. So you believe that those who foot the bill shouldn't have access to who they are employing? If the city is paying, (and it looks probable that they will) then all names should be public knowledge. I wouldn't want anyone not privy to possible nepatism, only transparency seems fair. All forms of government should be this way, down to unionized public school teacher's who taxpayers are funding.

This should be public knowledge? What does THAT mean? Just because you don't know the names of the people involved with the non-profit doesn't mean the information isn't there or that's there's some sinister, underhanded plot at work, Laughable. It's called research and finding the information. For instance, in 15 seconds you could have found the following:
November 30, 2012 Sun-Gazette -- Don Kirnan is the executive director of the local nonprofit group (Williamsport Ice Arena) and commissioner of the Federal Hockey League - the same league in which the Outlaws play.
Local attorney Corey Mowery represents the nonprofit skating group.

Areutheanus, not one taxpayer should have to dig for anything! TRANSPARENCY at its finest would be best, especially if the SG would just report the facts and leave out what special interest groups have to say. The Outlaws were possibly better serving the NJ area, not this one. Reference Francine's post for clarity, outlaw.

Laughin, if you check into it you will find that everyone "working" at the games were volunteers.

I wonder how many police officers the city's next half-***ed idea will cost?

@laughingstock -- "Not one taxpayer should have to dig for anything! TRANSPARENCY..."
Don't you really mean "not one lazy, half-wit, lethargic naysayer with the means (a computer) to find information should ever have to?"
Transparency? The only transparency is the space between your ears and the fact you disapproved of the Outlaws.
How do you believe the names of the non-profit leadership -- a private group, not a government entity -- should be best delivered to you for your knowledge? Should the non-profit Williamsport Ice Arena have sent you and every other citizen of Williamsport and Lycoming County a list of its Board of Directors?
Taking the absurdity of your comments one step further. Who are members of the local Habitat for Humanity, Wise Options for Women, the Community Arts Center, or the Williamsport Rotary, all of whom are non-profits doing business with and/or in Williamsport?

@weldnpipe -- "Laughin, if you check into it you will find that everyone "working" at the games were volunteers."
Check into it?!? Why would Laughable want to take the effort to check into it? He knows he's full of enough hot air to melt the hockey rink and the snow around Bowman Field.
Case in point and in his own words he wrote "...of course someone is receiving a paycheck for running the skating program, the concession stand, etc." Oh, but that's not correct, as you clearly demonstrated, Weldnpipe. In fact, those unpaid volunteers are City Hall/government employees and their spouses and family members offering up their time to try to make hockey a success.
But Laughingstock is like many others who post here; rattle off an uneducated, unresearched, baseless, knee-jerk post and then either (1) abandon the thread when confronted with facts and logic just to spout off somewhere else or (2) resort to name calling, snide comments and clicking the "

Please read what you think everyone isn't suppose to know arutheanus in todays article. Your ranting to justify you or your partners job is apparent. Some people can see right through this mess. Now who will be writing out the checks to the city of Williamsport?

No jobs were stimulated only volunteerism? Why were they here then? Well it looks as if the taxpayers will be writing a check, on top of the check they already send to fund public jobs. According to enoughalready, some people were getting two before this rink froze over.
