First of all Jerry..I hope you were being sarcastic about the Hockey Team. As far as this latest escapade goes it's just another example of Campana not focusing on the most important things rather than wasting his time on b.s.
It's definitely about the money and I can name at least one family that won't be registered with anyone.

I agree that this is an expensive stupid idea with no point other than to try to find taxpayers. there are two totally stupid commments in this article, I'd like to call attention to: "It's no different than what the Department of Public Welfare requires when someone applies for public assistance," Miller said. ---It's ALOT different Chief Miller---tenants are NOT applying for benefits from public money!!! A person can certainly expect to provide information to a public agency to obtain benefits that one would not expect to provide to the city in order to rent a house!!! Campana also believes the law will prevent those individuals with a propensity to commit crimes or have a criminal record from leasing. Yeah, really? where do you think they will live? Maybe pile in with friends without registering??? This registration crap solves that problem how???? Totally ridiculous!

The city does not have the money to undertake such a labor intensive project. To set it up and matain it would cost plenty. If anyone votes on such a plan without knowing what the accual costs would be should not be in that position.

I couldn't agree with your comment enough David Bross. Government agendas should be transparent, not a persons right to privacy. I have read on these comment sections to much opinion as to why the media finds the need to publish or make public a persons private life. There is a fine line being violated here with this proposal and I hope our local government recognizes that factor before doing anything crazy.

Captain Miller justifies this proposed regulation by stating that, "We're in an age when there is no privacy any more.." I am very troubled by his comment and that the administration would consider these comments as representing the views of the adminisrtation. This is shallow simplistic thinking at its most dangerous.

Part of the problem is that most landlords don't care who they rent to as long as they get the check! Lots of slumlords in this town that have revoling door places and won't do anything to take care of their property and their tenants! You can have all the "handbooks" in place but until you hold them responsible nothing will change. though I don't see how this does that....

Obviously the Mayor has never read the "Landlord - Tenant Handbook for Pa."
It is the landlord's responsibility to secure good tenants, landlords do the background checks such as your references from previous jobs or other landlords.
Landlords are registered with the city already because they pay property taxes on their units. If the city is having problems they need to make the landlords accountable for renting to problem tenants.

I don't think this is legal. The federal government can't even force this with the census.

I'm with Rexjag on this being an attempt at collecting local income taxes from renters. Its got to be about the money or why else would they want it.

For heavens' sake...the article says, "Campana says the proposed law would give guidelines to landlords and tenants"...We DON'T need a new law to give out those guidelines - just publish them, maybe even in the SG.
Oh, and wouldn't it be nice if Gabey put some of this money he's throwing around for useless idiocies such as this, wouldn't it be nice if he fully funded our police and fire personnel instead.
We've already got issues of non-payment from the vaunted ice-hockey folks. No more wasteful ideas from this clarabelle mayor we've got!

The reason behind this is Tax Collection, pure and simple. All the rest about Public Safety, etc. is B.S. I can't believe the Council is even going to consider this.
