Ritty, I don't like shoveling so much. But I sure do like plowing it with my Suzuki Kingquad. I can plow all but a foot or two of my walks and the steps. Bring on the snow.

Oh yeah Relene, it's just a terrific letter. Well, at least until you consider that gun ownership in the town in question isn't actually any higher than in the rest of the country, or that the local law enforcement there says the ordinance has nothing to do with their crime rate.

And that's without even getting into the fact, that not a single conservative here, can provide any real world information at all about how you could keep from forcing "criminals" and the mentally ill (like you), from buying firearms.

So essentially if you are willing to overlook the fact, that factually the letter is a complete piece of horse hockey, then it's a terrific letter.

I like to shovel snow, and I regularly clear snow at work.

Big snows slow things down. They bring out neighbors and friends and helpful people pushing people out.

A fresh fallen snow is beautiful, clean and white, and that muffled sound...ah, the simple joys of life.

Also, clearly, it's good for the water table.

Clearly you don't live in a house on a corner, have to clear snow from a large area at work, or have to drive much for work. Two of the above situations apply to me, and I have several friends the third applies to, so I'll keep hoping that snowfall is confined to ski areas.

I'm not backpedaling on anything. My point being that its just terrific to say "no guns for criminals or the mentally ill" , but when you actually look at the situation, you have no way in reality to identify these people. If you have a secret way, please share.

Also not sure if you noticed, by I pointed out this entire story is bs. The gun ownership in the town in question isn't really higher than the national average, and the local law enforcement says the law has virtually nothing to do with their crime rate.

In light of my recent comments Fredzz, it sounds like you may be implying that the law in GA the letter writer is talking about, is essentially "making criminals" out of the half the population that choses not to own a gun even with the law.

You can't.

But, the Law can charge a person with a Crime and make it stick. That makes the person a criminal in the eye of the Law. Just because they didn't know the law exists.

And then there's this tidbit:

So the gun ownership there is about the same as the rest of the country, many people don't even know the law exists, and the police in the town say that any drop in crime that's happened since the law was passed had ZERO to do with the law.

Remind why this letter was written again? Why wouldn't the letter writer have taken the 30 seconds to find this out BEFORE submitting the letter, or was the letter just another attempt to deceive?

It's interesting that when you look into the facts surrounding this case you find the following (the man quoted in the article has been with the local police for over 26 years):

Gun-rights advocates extolled the law as proof that more arms increase safety, crediting it with Kennesaw’s relatively low crime rate and a drop in burglaries after it took effect.

That image of Kennesaw is also exaggerated, said Graydon. He credits police work and community cooperation with achieving a crime rate that compares well with the city’s neighbors. He also debunked an oft-repeated claim that the community has had no homicides in 30 years. It’s had nine, fewer than half involving guns, he said.
