January 23, 2013

Gun control. When I use the term, I mean you're going to make sure of your target, have a good backstop, take careful aim and fire, once all safety requirements are me....

Wayne Knapp-"Let's concentrate on enforcement of existing laws, not trying to make criminals of law-abiding citizens."

I agree Wayne.

You can't "make" a criminal out of a law-abiding citizen. Either he is or he isn't...

Yeah...no conflict, there.

So...REQUIRING someone, to own a gun, makes them MORE "law-abiding citizens", huh??

That doesn't seem "somewhat" an over-reach, to the paranoids in town?

Who is denying anyone a right to own a firearm with the exception of felons and adjudicated mentally ill? How many people actually own a weapon beyond a hand gun for the purpose of self-defense?

Strapped how? For cash? To a mental ward bed? with a gun?

What happened yesterday is why we should look more closely at gun control. Innocent people getting shot because two people had an argument in a public place. We should not have live in fear because someone wants to feel protected. We have rights too.

"Because of a local ordinance, gun ownership is required of all eligible residents of Kennesaw, Georgia"

So your idea for a national solution to gun violence, is to pass a law requiring criminals to buy guns?

Good luck with that.

It's funny to see this just a couple days after I was posting about the people that live across the street from me that OBVIOUSLY shouldn't be allowed to own a BB gun, because if it's in their house, they'll let small children go randomly shoot it off into the neighborhood from their yard unsupervised.

Now we have a reader submit a letter that says all criminals, and mentally ill people in our society, along all with idiots that simply are WAY too irresponsible to own a gun, should be forced to buy guns. The only part you forgot Mr. Knapp was the tax cut.

Hayes, you need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills. Read the LTE again and don't gloss over the meaningful stuff you did the first time.

If there is one thing I could wish for to help our country, it would be a right wing that was more or less sane and rational enough to have an actual dialogue in. I think the first chapter of the descent happened when they felt obligated to spend 8 years trying to rationalize, and defend the indefensible under the second President Bush. In chapter 2, they had to support a guy that they'd spent years deriding as a "Rhino" to try and prevent black Democrat from winning the White House, which in itself somehow seemed to kick in the turbo on the crazy for about half the Republican party. Then after the election was over, and they had lost, the portion of the Republican party that genuinely didn't care about the race of the President, had to spend so much time trying to defend the portion that went crazy from it, that they started going crazy. Now they lost the election a few months ago, and the nitrous has kicked in on the crazy.

Who will restore the sanity?

"Hayes, you need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills. Read the LTE again and don't gloss over the meaningful stuff you did the first time."

Went back and reread the letter, and nothing in there says about putting any limitation on forcing people to buy guns.

It STILL says that criminals, the mentally ill, and people that should NEVER be allowed to own guns, should be forced by the govt to buy a product that in most cases they don't want.

Facts are irrelevant to magical thinkers pushing an agenda, as we can plainly see here in the pro gun control comments.

I mean you understand Premier, that most criminals don't have a criminal record, and over one quarter of the US population suffer from some sort of mental disorder, and the vast majority are undiagnosed, right?

Or maybe you think that people that are far too irresponsible to own a weapon, will seize the moment they are forced to purchase a weapon by the big govt, to declare themselves "too irresponsible" to own a weapon?

So Phil, I thought you were a Libertarian? You mean to tell me that you support a law to force citizens to buy a product they don't want, and in many, if not most cases they shouldn't have?

Why Phil, you wacky old socialist. Would the "tyrannical" govt force people "at the point of a gun", to buy more guns, you know, the way you say you're required to pay taxes?

The "magical thinking" the right never ceases to amaze. They apparently think that through the magical power of dousing they can see who is a "criminal", or mentally ill, or not capable of owning a gun, so that when they march us all off to the gun store to force us at the point of a gun, to buy more guns, they'll just be able to tell who should have to buy, and who should be prohibited.

Tip me off, would skin complexion come into play?

In the requirement they do background checks. They also comply with all state and federal regulations. In essence the city of Kennesaw regulates guns. Something you are all against.
