City seeks payment of utility bills for arena

I have an off the wall question because I really have no knowledge of the Federal Hockey League...is it a government driven league? I realize that might be a silly question but..given the name and all.

As far as the issue, I sure hope the city plans to sue the team for the money because I think I speak for all taxpayers in saying we're sick of this crap. EVERYONE could see this coming 100 miles away. I said last year in an email to the mayor that I couldn't understand why he was making Hockey a priority when there are so many other things that should be more important in this city. Now..more than likely it's going to come back and hit the tax payers in the face.

Side-note: Harry I like the idea about the pool. Might as well be used for something.

Everybody is running for the hills but last summer the mayor could not wait to the get team here,no matter what the consequense!!.He rail-roaded this team on the town without doing any homework on these thugs. He knew that the same team and ownership left Wayne, NJ in the middle of the night after breaking their 3 year lease there. How can we expect any different?Iheard that city employees & resources were used to get the arena up and running and noit wil cost us $$ to break this thing down and pay for the bills.The Myor repeadly said,it will not cost us anything. Love the political double-speak.

my question is why is the city left footing this bill? if i raised my electric bill over a thousand dollars and then beat feet, would my city be left to pay it?? no, i dont think so, neither would it be the citys responsiblity to pay any laymans bills, so then why are they paying for a TEAM or lack there of, a teams bill? go after the people that owned the team, played on the team, etc.. and take them to court for it.. dont make the city pay.. OH and yes, williamsport needs a FEW new leaders not just one clown replaced but MANY clowns.

Weldnpipe and aretesanus suggest that there were no paid positions (no jobs) created as a result of bringing the Outlaws here. Why were they brought here? To generate money for who then? Who in the h e l l do these people think they are talking to, dumb butts? People with hidden agendas should be revealed for the outlaws they are.

Like I posted yesterday, someone did not do their research. If city council was conducting an experiment, they obviously depended on someone else's knowledge to proceed with implementation. Taxpayers need to know who they elect to governmental positions. It would appear that some professions are given way to much credit as being omnipotent and omniscient! I agree with you bryan48.

The league was in financial strife prior to coming here. Add that to a team leaving NJ that just won a championship to come play outdoors here. The real question is what was the thought and expectations behind this? To get funding? If so, maybe it does benefit us. I feel people deserve an answer as to why this was pursued.

HarryT1940-- the city already has a location to skate, the Armory on Penn St, however I suspect the Armory was not flooded for skating this year as to not take business away from our now non-existent Airman Pond.

Same post, better proofreading: I had assumed that the hockey team was directly responsible to all vendors for any bills. Since that wasn't the case, why wasn't a bond posted for the estimated amount of utility bills? They did that for returning the field to its orignal condition.

I knew this was going to happen as soon as I heard the news Williamsport was getting a hockey team. Williamsport only get a handfull of people to go to the Crosscutter's games unless they give out free tickets, so what made the city think people would come out in freezing weather when they can't get people to go to a baseball game in the summer? Something "smells" here!

I have an idea for the city to consider since Airmen Pond is gone, and we did have a lot of public interest in skating, why not fill in the Memorial Pool with dirt, stone what ever to with a foot of the top of the pool. Then cover this fill much of which could be free and coat it with about a 4" layer of asphalt, then come next winter it could be flooded with water and used for public ice skating this would probably be cheaper than dismantling it, and back filling the blank hole and it would still give some service to a pool that will never reopen as a pool.

There are positives that have come out of this. Many people who did not come out to the meetings last May, who are now interested in an indoor arena, are not ready to let go. They will be supporting and indoor ice arena.

This was destined to fail from the beginning. Now they talk about oversight and issue "a cautionary warning for future experiments". This wasn't a Kohl's that produced some local jobs, albeit low wage, this was an "experiment" in stupidity.
