Growing up on a dairy farm in Tioga County, I've seen life through the eyes of people who spent their entire existence scrapping out a living just to support their families....

Tedeaux, really, you can still use your property, tell that to the many farmers wholeased their property and now their cattle has a disease and they have to either kill them or do nothing with them for several years to see if they get better. Tell that to the farmers whose water wells are now polluted. What little thinking you people have!

Hey Tim, I say you go crawl back under your rock! You are probably making tons of money and therefore you do not care about anyone else. We were approached to leave 452 and I can say that we sent them packing. Clean air and clean water mean more to me than money. Anyone that leased to the gas industry should be ashamed that money means more to you than the health and welfare of others.

Bobbie, the water/sewer costs, imo, have nothing to do with landlords. That's a water company/public service issue. It's ridiculous how those costs continue to sky rocket.

Mr. Kreger, Too bad you're angry about "Hollywood fat cats" touring our state, but at least get your facts right. First, Yoko Ono and her son are from NEW YORK, not Hollywood. In fact,the Lennons have a particularly strong vested interest in this issue, because they own a home in the Catskills, which John especially loved because of its beautiful clean water. Besides, everyone has a right to see for themselves what can happen in areas where gas drilling has created problems, and draw their own conclusions accordingly. You need to remember -- the environment is EVERYONE'S business.

First, bhale, I never said anything about a mortgage for a rental property. Does anyone have reading comprehension skills anymore? Secondly Mr. Hic****, I said, many times now, that it wasn't easy to own a home. I only said that then in 95, as well as now, that you can have a mortgage payment and own the property for what most rental payments cost per month. Many banks have interest rates now at between 3 and 4% for a 30 yr. fixed. A friend of mine just purchased a home with a mortgage of $120K and his mortgage payment, with taxes and insurance, $524 a month. Cheaper than renting at $900 a month, just saying.

Thanks Mr. Reeder. I am not going far. Just away from the residential industrial sites and the politicians who just don't seem to care what happens to the people in this area when something goes wrong. I am thinking about joining the Keystone Liberals. I have been to the site several times now.

Twinder, My mortgage on my rental property is a lot higher than my rent. I'm not gouging. You need to take into account Taxes (another 200/mo) and Insurance, upkeep, and everything else that goes with owning a home. I was fortunate, like you, to be able to build my home in the early 90's but i can tell you firsthand that purchasing a commercial property in today's environment is much harder to do. Loans aren't as easy as they were in the 90's. I have one property with 2 buildings that I run a business from and the house rental came along with it. I know i could get much more for the property but my hope is to find someone that will simply take care of it with a lot more respect than some of the other renters i hear about. If i need to keep my price down a little to do that, I'm fine with that. I'm providing a home for a family that otherwise can't afford or have the means to purchase. If someday they decide to purchase i will help them the best that I can. We are not all gougers.

What I think is funny is how everybody wants to blame the gas companies for destroying our forests, waterways, and anything else that seems to have a problem. Maybe we should look at ourselves as a community first. The gas companies have been here since what, 2010? So did they dump the 85,000,000 pounds of littered trash from our communities the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful had to clean up. Since 2005, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful has surveyed 55 counties identifying 5,759 illegal dumpsites containing an estimated 17,088 tons of trash. These are dumpsite with tires, garbage, cans, chemicals, etc. What about Williamsport Sewer that for years up until recently would allow raw sewage overflow to enter the susquehanna river? Did the gas companies make them do this? Also, all the hoopla on the fracking chemicals is outrageous. Hydralic "Brine" solution is 99% water and sand with 1% chemical additives. These chemical additives are commonly found in household cosmetics/clea

I never said that the gas industry hasn't had an effect on rental prices. I simply pointed out that even today, if you are paying $900 a month to rent a home, you can still purchase or build one for less money per month and own it yourself. I'm not subject to a landlord changing my rent on a whim. It's not easy but if we were able to do it, you can do it too. Even in 95 we were finding rental prices that were higher than what our mortgage ended up being. Not much has changed.

twinder, in case you haven't noticed, it's not 1995, our economy isn't in a 'booming' state, and prices on everything have sky rocketed. No, you didn't say it was easy. What you did was make a failing attempt to discredit my point about the Gas Industry having an effect on the rent prices/landlord greed in the area.
