Your numbers are entirely false...Try again.

Just watched the protests in DC. Looks like this gun control thing could get very interesting. Looks like the NRA might have its hands full. We will see.

With secularism, there isn't an absolute morality. That is my point. Morals have been on the downward slide for quite a few decades.

FortySixand2-"The subjugation of women is not a good moral value. Ending a pregnancy is a healthcare choice. It's a decision made by a woman and her healthcare provider. YOU...Are not in the equation!"

Who said anything about bringing women under control? The ONLY way abortion is a health care choice is if the mother's health is in danger. Otherwise it's the killing of a baby in the name of birth control.

It's telling that you say I have nothing in abortion, which has killed 54.56 million kids since 1973 but you want to have a say in guns which have killed 1.26 million people since 1968. Inconvenient truth?

mikekerstetter - "Zephyr, The writers point goes beyond Christianity and religion. It speaks to the watered down morality and lack of respect for life that is prevalent. The morality that Christianity has been taken out of daily life. ..., it hasn't been replaced with an absolute moral code that sets strict boundaries on what is acceptable behavior. "

That's because there is no such thing as absolute morality. Its a fiction concocted to attempt to give the appearance that one's opinions on morality are beyond criticism.

My morals are better than yours! Good luck with that! The subjugation of women is not a good moral value. Ending a pregnancy is a healthcare choice. It's a decision made by a woman and her healthcare provider. YOU...Are not in the equation!

America, we have a gun problem! If more guns made us safe, we'd be the safest on the planet. But we're not. More guns = more gun deaths."

Since 1973 there have been 54,559,615 deaths from abortions.

54.56 million deaths from abortions since 1973 vs 1.26 deaths from guns since 1968.

But we have a GUN problem???

That attitude right there is a symptom of the larger problem we have of lacking morality in the US.

cheyenne-"Morals, sense of responsibility, treating others with respect, etc., or lack thereof, are all traits learned at home at a very young age. We are the product of the quality of our upbringing."

To a large degree, that is true. But there is also the social pressure to behave in a moral way that has been watered down. Multiple children to multiple fathers out of wedlock, sex before marriage, abortion, drug and alcohol abuse, etc, is now widely accepted where it once was considered taboo. We, as a society, have lost our moral compass.

For anyone who is interested, there is a Program for teens and their parents tomorrow night called the Silver Ring Thing that advocates saving oneself for marriage. It's at the Williamsport High school and details can be found in a SG article from a couple days ago.

“Christianity has been taken out of daily life.”

Again, one only has to look at secular countries to see that Christianity is certainly no harbinger for leading a moral life. In fact, it shows quite succinctly that religious belief is no guarantor of moral behavior, and that in lieu of no religion, people suddenly live like demons. They don’t. We don’t need a fear-based belief in some invisible sky daddy to lead a moral life; to treat people with compassion and respect. People in America now see that, and it’s one reason why they are leaving the church in droves.

I would be very interested in having Ms. Gamble identify a particular period in our nation's history when the nation most closely matched the goals and ideals she has presented in her letter.

"Maybe this is just what you're being told "THEY" are saying. I think you will find few here that feel they just want and need more."

I am not being 'told' that it is what members of the right have said.

Letters have been written calling for no bans on any type on guns or clips or ammunition. There is support for armed guards in schools and other public places. That is a call for more guns Josh.

Members of the right are calling for the reading of scripture from the Bible and prayer in schools and other areas. That is a call for more. They want instituted it into public areas.

When it comes to telling more convincing lies at election time the dems are definitely the more intelligent party. Some of those charismatic liars could be selling air conditioners to Eskimos.

"One would think a gun show wouldn't be very smart place to start shooting with all of those guns around."

Who said they are smart to begin with. Big assumption of your part.

The company who is behind the gun show decided not to allow assault weapons at an event to showcase hunting weaponry. Upon hearing this vendors pulled out and celebrity guests pulled out. My guess is no one was interested in hunting.

"Nope, we aren't the stupid party, so the "atop being the stupid party" must be referencing the Dems..You guys are atop being stupid."

Why Relene, it was Bobby Jindal that said this. Don't you know who Bobby Jindal is? Why he's the Republican Gov of LA, and he apparently thinks the current Republican party is the "stupid party", because he said in the keynote address to the Republican National Committee winter meeting that they should "stop being the stupid party". Sorry if you got confused by the typo (big fingers and small phone keyboard), but apparently Bobby Jindal thinks you're stupid Relene. How does that make you feel?

"Is it any wonder we've (now) got so many incompetent-rookies (in Congress), from the 2010 Elections...who'd just spent two years, drawing a check..****plaining about wasteful government-spending?"

Or perhaps the DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED SENATE that hasn't done ANY work in 4 years? Including a lawfully required BUDGET?

As for those who persist in using the terms congress/senate, the liberals who voted for Obama are not smart enough to know the difference. They think the whole shebang is congress and that none of them are doing their jobs. But then that's what they've been told by their leftist leader!!!!
