If someone were REALLY interested in defining 4 common themes in "progressives", they are (not necessarily in this order):

1) Legalize pot, tax it, and allow the legitimate free market to do it's thing with it. It would raise revenues, reduce expenditures, and create LOTS and LOTS of private sector jobs.

2) Gay people should have the SAME rights as everyone else in America.

3) Universal single payer health insurance. Not free by any means, but insurance that is funded through tax dollars. The majority also think doctors should be free to run their practices as independent businesses.

4) Women should have the ability to chose to terminate their pregnancy.

"There is no intellect on the left, as leftist philosophies are exclusively emotionally based."

I would rather have emotions than be a cold blooded brute like you. You gun owners are very emotional about your guns, you are really emotional when you purchase them. You cherish them. The right gets very emotional about the unborn and immigration and religion and homosexuality. You were very emotional about the election and when you lost.

But you are right Wayne you on the right have no feelings at all.

Of course there are some people who aren’t intelligent and informed enough to know the difference between political philosophies and political parties.

"Correct Lazy, liberals don't scream about anything their politicians do. Rape, murder, pedophilia or stealing, whatever, it makes no difference as long as they keep passing out the goodies."

None of the politicians that conservatives voted for has ever been caught doing anything like that. Bobbie is not only blind like Phil but deaf as well. They think screaming about the liberal politicians will keep people from noticing the horrible conservative ones.

Buff, I believe you’re intelligent and informed enough to know the difference between political philosophy and political parties. Are you just playing dumb in an attempt to confuse the issue?

"as long as they keep passing out the goodies"

You mean in the red states that overwhelmingly supported Romney, AND receive the most from the federal govt?

" it’s liberals that always want to play party partisanship."

You mean all this time it was liberals screaming bloody murder about the Presidents birth certificate? You could have fooled me Phil.

Hi Phil.. if not, then what exactly are you talking about? And, regarding the latter part of your comment, it's hardly only liberals..

Buff, when I speak of conservative or liberal, I’m not talking about Republican or Democrat; it’s liberals that always want to play party partisanship.

" Fear not, perhaps one day the elevator will reach the top floor.."

I'm pretty optimistic, but not that optimistic. Brainwashing that bad is almost always a dead end.

"It’s a favorite trick of those on the left to portray “the right” as bible thumping, gun carrying, pro life, anti-gay zealots, but that doesn’t come close to being the truth. If you’re going to be honest, you should explain which group you’re talking about, but I wouldn’t expect intellectual honesty from many on the left."

Now who is doing tricks and magical thinking.

Hi, phil.. actually, the characterization of the right you just penned quite acurately reflects the divisions within the modern republican parties and the fragile coalition cobbled together under reagan appears to be crumbling under the weight of its own divisiveness. Or, as Reich recently opined and to paraphrase, President Obama has laid bare many factions if conservatism. Libertarians don't appreciate social conservatives imposing their brand of morality upon us, shrink the government fanatics don't support deficit hawks. Add in the nativists and racists who don't support immigrants or minorities getting ahead, and top it all off with the right wing populists vs the wall street crowd, who love government as long as it provides them with subsidies, bailouts and defense spending. All of this seems to point to a future that bodes well for progressivism.

There are fiscal conservatives and there are social conservatives. Some fiscal conservatives may be social conservatives and some fiscal conservatives aren’t. Some social conservatives may be fiscal conservatives and some social conservatives aren’t.

It’s a favorite trick of those on the left to portray “the right” as bible thumping, gun carrying, pro life, anti-gay zealots, but that doesn’t come close to being the truth.
