January 29, 2013

It was a festive red ribbon-cutting occasion last April when the 350-space Church Street Transportation Project opened amid hoopla as dignitaries expressed hope for a parking solution in an expandin......

My family and I stayed at the Townplace Suites from July thru September while relocating to this area. I can truly say I agree with the city on NOT paying the full amount on the parking garage. The elevator in the garage never worked while we were staying there. Work progressed at a snails pace and the artwork on the side of the building was put up in the middle of the night keeping everyone staying on the Church St side of the hotel upto all night. Not to mention the bums using the bathroom in the parking garage stair well. The contractor definately cost the city revenue and the cost of extra security while they took their good old sweet time to finish the job.

As a retired purchasing agent, this should all have been covered in the PURCHASE ORDER. If it wasn't, the city better be seeking a new purchasing agent!!!!

With a proper purchase order, any late services, delayed use of facility, etc., SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED, which would prevent this kind of mess.

It reminds me of the federal government and their lack of proper purchase orders which result in cost overruns, etc.

In a day of tough times, it is amazing how many state and fed grants are available for nonsense like decorating a building. How about investing it in teaching younger people here how they can can go in to business for themselves. It seems priorities here are VERY backwards.

Art work on exterior walls? How many tax dollars went into that?

Amen Shirley. It's absolutely a result of the 'good old boy network' that many people have referenced. While the artwork on the site of the buildings looks nice, I agree, spending that amount of money, or any amount of money on it when you're struggling to find the funds for a new budget is inexcusable.

Sadly, must agree with wwhickok - Wmspt has become a place to pass away rather than live. From the old boy network to the old money to the extremely OLD mind set, there is not much place left in town for youth, excitement, new ideas or just plain happiness.

I'd just like to add to mr. nickels & dimes - geesh, pay the bill and NOT the attorneys!

why does 2oo thousand dollars need to be spent on ARTWORK PANELS on the outside of the building when grafitti artists do it for free. that is just rediculous from a city thats almost broke any ways. grants and such are supposed to be used for the good of the city not to sue people with FIRE THEM ALL get people in there that know what the*****they are doing

"No city dollars are being used in the defense of the lawsuit," Nichols said. "We're using state and federal grant funds that have been reserved for the final payment," he said.

Say what? Are they using the final payment to pay for the defense against making the final payment?

Trickle down irresponsibility from the top. Now cities are not paying their bills and using ridiculous excuses! The "good old boys club" at city hall needs to be eliminated.

This city is a ****hole. It's gotten progressively worse. You have a better chance of dying here than succeeding here.
