What is the magic helmet thing?

"God gave mankind free will and choice."
Right. So, if I ask you to obey me but you say no, and I then respond with, that's okay, you are free to walk away, but if you do I will torture you for eternity? That in your mind is free will? No, it isn't. Aside from the fact that there is no proof for you god, you worship a petty tyrant. Finally, who would want to 'live' for an eternity? I didn't ask to be born, therefore your god has no dominion over me.

Class144,
God gave mankind free will and choice; even the choice to crucify Christ when he came to earth. We are not zombies or robots. He gave us dominion over the earth. He will implement justice in due time. He even allows you to mock him and call him names.
BTW, you can talk to God direct; you don't need an intermediary.
What's the magic helmet thing; is that some Catholic tradition or something you were taught when you were growing up?
If people were involved with a cover-up, they need to be dealt with appropriately by whatever the governmental laws were in the country they resided in. On top of that, the church should "police" itself and deal with them, including possibly relieving them of their duties.

“With all the passion that you have on this topic, it is almost like you have first hand knowledge of someone who was assaulted. If that is the case, maybe you could spend some time tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice. Maybe God could use your help.”
And if god could use my help, then he would no longer be a god. But while we wait, the kids keep being sexually abused, your god does nothing, and people like you are there to defend him or it or whatever else you need to call it. I saw where things are looking worse for the Catholic Church. It seems the knowledge of abuse has been traced to the current pope and the one before him, you know: those intermediaries between god and folks like me. I guess once you put on that magic helmet you can start talking to god and covering up child abuse.

Now I will qualify my statements because I have never been a jurist, prosecutor, defense attorney, etc. I default to those that are.
Gentlemen, our legal system can (and should) be improvement so that the chances of innocent people being executed are reduced. Maybe we should have processes that introduce more logic and less emotion in the decision making process. Possibly have specialized, neutral review boards comprised of forensic scientists, lie detector tests, ensure defense has access to any a

Getting back to Hollywood. What about the consumer? The ticket buyers who make the overly violent films produce number 1 at the box office. They are only going to make what consemers want.

God's been allowing priests to play Dr. Feel-Good with children for years. So it's safe to assume he doesn't mind if a few innocents slip through the cracks in state-sponsored Murder.

I agree with Mr. Hickok that those who support capital punishment and are anti-abortion are in conflict with their views. They are not against taking of a life.

Your last comment is outrageous to say the least.
Women die in childbirth. Women die while pregnant because of complications being pregnant. Women become pregnant against their will. You bypassed the rights of women which is not surprising.

I’ll add that when a person violates another’s rights they forfeit their own rights including their right to life if they are guilty of taking another’s life.
A baby, whether born or unborn, hasn’t violated anyone’s right to anything, so it’s a poor comparison.

I do support capital punishment and feel that it should be applied equally to any human, born or unborn; that has had due process, has been found guilty in a court of law of a capital crime, and has had the opportunity to appeal that conviction." - WaitingForReason

I guess I am thinking of those who say, "All life is sacred." when they support their objections to abortions under any circumstances. For those folks, I don't understand how they can be for capital punishment. For someone who says that abortion is wrong because of the specific characteristics of the issue, but don't assert that all life is sacred, I have less of an issue with them.
