Shame on you

February 1, 2013

Under police and courts, the headline DUI killer is totally uncalled for. As the man confessed, he knew he had hit something. A killer sets out to deliberately kill, which was not the case here....

Maybe he should have thought of all those consequences before he drove drunk. All the paper did was report the truth.

When you get behind the wheel of a car after drinking you become a villain and you are out to kill others - if you make it home without wrecking it's pure luck.

I think this letter is b.s.

DUI Killer? Sounds about right to me. If you drink and drive and kill someone as a result, yes, you're a killer. Don't want to be called a killer? Don't drink and drive. There is no excuse for it. You want to kill someone while intoxicated? Kill yourself, not other peoples' children.

"DUI Killer" sounds about right to me. Not sure what article the person is referencing, but if someone was killed by someone that was driving under the influence, I imagine these would have been the 2 recurring themes at the trial.

I wonder if the writer really thought she'd get a lot of sympathy for the drunk driver. It's not like he killed anybody...Oh wait, it's exactly like that. The writer should look at it from a more positive angle. At least the headline wasn't DUI Murderer. Next to that DUI Killer looks kinder. See it's all in your perspective.

Jeff, while I did click agree to your comment I felt compelled to say this.

Accidents happen, car accidents, fires, etc, where someone dies as the result of something you foolishly or accidently did, that doesn't necessarily make you a killer, at least that's how I feel.

However, your point, which is why I agreed with it, is that when you're willingly and voluntarily putting yourself in a position that you know not only puts yourself at risk but others as well, if you kill someone, you shouldn't be whining that others are calling you a killer, because hey..'if the shoe fits..'

I don't think she was asking for sympathy for the driver. The children and wife have nothing to do with his offense. The headline was a bit much given the things that are never covered. The real issue to address is those who bully his children. Anger should be addressed towards the individual who drove, not his family.

Spike - read my previous comment. None of this would have happened if the driver took a cab. Anything that is happening to him or his family is a direct result of his decision to drive drunk. Yes it's too bad that his family suffers because he is a dumbdonkey, but that's on him.

Not only is 'killer' misused but so is the word 'kill/killed'. Don't you remember the headlines 'family of 5 killed by drunk driver'. 'Drunk driver kills self and another motorist'. We even say things like drugs kill, when you think about it using killer to describe a drunk driver was not far behind.

Put a Breathalizer in EVERY CAR! Problem solved! And before some of you drive the waaambulance in here on costs or not a realistic problem, use MADD's lobby money and the current advertising budget for the epidemic to defer costs. Problem solved and done!

Of course the reality of this is the trial lawyers, courthouse employees, madd would have nothing to do with curing the problem and forgoing their sacred cash cow.

breathalizer/interlock on every car, ZERO tolerance law PERIOD! Otherwise its the same lame never-ending game..

I fail to see how the word 'kill' is being missused here.

Webster defines kill: to deprive of life : cause the death of

Didn't this drunk driver cause the death of another person? Whether that's what he wanted to do or not, that is what he did. He killed someone, and he did it by violating a law in a way which he knew could cause a death. It's sad that his wife and children suffer because of it, but you can't ignore a crime just because of this.

Speaking of DUI's.......

Obama's illegal alien uncle has a deportation hearing set. He was first ordered deported 21 years ago.

The judge scheduled for the hearing is the same one that allowed Zeituni Onyago to stay and sponge off the taxpayers.

What a family!!!!!

I agree with Jeff33 on this one. You jump into a car and you are over the limit and somebody dies, you killed them. Chuck as always has lost his mind and makes no logical sense at all.

The Sun-Gazette didn't do anything to anyone, the drunk driver did. Why isn't the anger being focused where it belongs----on the person who caused the situation by his own completely voluntary actions and choices.

It's too bad the wife & child are also paying for the father's crime, but unfortunately that's the way life is and people are. If the father had been accused of arson resulting in a death, or even if no death resulted from his action and the crime had been rape or even theft or forgery or embezellment, the family would still be suffering from the perpetrators actions.
