Holy ***! ANOTHER whack job alluding to wanting to murder Americans. Are you guys sure you aren't working for al Qaeda?

Here's the million dollar question:

Why should guns NOT be completely banned, when we have drooling masses roaming the countryside, slobbering all over themselves for a chance to start mass murdering Americans?

Marvin Simkin wrote in Los Angeles Times in 1922, 'Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. Freedom comes from the recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99% vote.'

"slobbering all over themselves for a chance to start mass murdering Americans?"

And you accuse others of ridiculous conspiracy theories and exaggerated hysteria?

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Unknown" - Myron Deitrick

So...in some peoples' minds...those are our two options; Democracy, OR Liberty (after minorities are better-armed)???

I'm fairly-certain mass-murder isn't the original-intent. My guess has always been...due to the frustrations o' daily Life...too-many people are buying weapons, in hopes of blowing-away SOMEONE...for SOME reason!!!

It's always possible that MASS-murder is merely the end-result of (the eventual realization of) too-many "opportunities", lost.

CHayes-"Here's the million dollar question: Why should guns NOT be completely banned.."

Because of that pesky thing called the US Constitution and the Second Amendment. It says we have a right to keep them. Get over it.

Does the letter's author mean to say that democracy only works at gunpoint?

Chayes, the Constitution says what it says, and the Supreme Court has confirmed it. The Right of the People to keep and Bear Arms shall not be infringed. That argument has already been made and your side lost.

Not surprisingly you aren't following along. CHayes asked why we don't take away ALL guns; hence my reply to him.

But Mike your side always accuse others of taking all their arms and they say no one can take or keep them from having any gun they want.

The Supreme Court rulings have said otherwise. The government can regulate guns something that some on the right see as an outright infringement of the Second Amendment.

I follow along Mike I also know what was said by the usual suspects on this issue. Not everyone who supports gun control wants a complete ban. However this is what those who are against gun control thinks. They also believe that the 2A prohibits any controls at all on guns which is not true. 2A is not an individual right only it is also a collective right.

"So...in some peoples' minds...those are our two options; Democracy, OR Liberty" Exactly Shammy, Liberty and Democracy have never blended together. America is not, nor has it ever been a democracy, it is a Republic with a Constitution as its foundation. The Founders were tremendously hostile to democracy as a government because it has and always will lead to tyranny. There is a tremendous difference between a democracy, where mob rules and in a Republic where the foundational laws, ie the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and yes even the Articles of Confederation place a chain around the lawmaking of men in government. If you want to change the country to a democracy then propose a constitutional amendment and get that passed through 2/3rd's of the states.
