I find the gun debate to be much like the budget/national debt debate. There has not been one person in favor of more gun legislation and control who can definitively prove that by restricting my liberties anyone will be safer and that criminals will have no access to banned weapons. In the budget/national debt debate I have not heard one person in favor of continued unchecked spending, printing of money and borrowing to finance our whims explain why it is okay to burden future generations for our laziness and greed. Perhaps if those in favor of such things could articulate a reasoned response, they would be taken seriously.

Sorry Mike. I was flipping through comments. I believe that you and I agree as to the weapon and so forth.

I wish people would actually read what someone wrote before pounding out a reply.

Spike, I didn't say the gun in the trunk was the rifle. In fact, I was questioning where USA got her info, because I can't find one reputable source that corroborates what she said. SO I AM AGREEING THAT THE RIFLE WAS USED in the Sandy Hook shooting. I said that the coroner (AKA ME) stated that the rifle was used. I get really tired of having to explain myself to people who can't read and comprehend what they are reading.

Mike - that was not the gun in the trunk. Did you even listen to the ME's? They didn't have a dog in the fight. The "government" did not issue the initial reports. The "government" did not write the police reports. Evidence gathering is a process. If someone is posting from the local police, perhaps you could explain the process of homicide investigation, false leads, initial errors and the fact that the ME's only make determination based on results of autopsy.

USABorn-"Lanza's Ar15 WAS FOUND BY THE POLICE IN HIS VEHICLE. It was NOT used in the killing of anyone at the school. HMM...... IMAGINE THIS, OUR GOVERNMENT ACTUALLY LYING TO US ??"

USA, where did you get this from? I've seen it quite a bit but can't find one reputable news source that verifies it. In face, the coroners reports I've seen published all said the weapon used was a .223.

I think the call for the ban is absurd, but I'd like to know the truth of the matter, whether it favors my position or not.

The lamestream media had a pre-planned attack already waiting for the next shooting to take place, (thanks to their idol in the W.H.) to ban so-called assault weapons and jumped on that line of reporting. And they did so, knowing it was a lie. People like Piers Morgan who said the shooter used an AR-15 that shoots hundreds of rounds per minute, as if it were a machine gun.

Could it be that the liberals/progressives/democrats and their lamestream media were pushing for the new law, hoping they could do it, before the Coroner released the info????

Lanza's Ar15 WAS FOUND BY THE POLICE IN HIS VEHICLE. It was NOT used in the killing of anyone at the school.

HMM...... IMAGINE THIS, OUR GOVERNMENT ACTUALLY LYING TO US ??

So.... they finally had to come out and admit it, now that the Coroner has released some info along with Police. An AR-15 or so-called "Assault Weapon" was not used in the school shooting.

There were initial reports right after the shooting, that Police found the AR-15 Rifle in his car, NOT IN THE SCHOOL, AND WAS NOT USED IN SHOOTING as the media has charged.

In my earlier post, I was, of course, referencing earlier reports of ANY incident, not specifically, or limited to, Sandy Hook. This post was to clarify for those with reading comprehension deficits.

It's been my experience that the earlier reports are typically correct, since there has been no time for corruption of the facts by anybody from police revisionists, government intervention or some corporate interest who finds an alternate story more favorable. Now notice, I did NOT say the earliest reports are ALWAYS more accurate because clearly they're not. However, in MANY instances the early reports are less prone to tampering.

Well, I've read reports of both versions. The most recent I've seen; was it was all handguns used. I guess we won't truly know until all the forensic evidence testing is complete. I based my last sentence of the rebuttal on what I've read and if I am mistaken, I apologize.

Nothing wrong with guns, or people owning them. There are more responsible gun owners than there are non responsible people. Im glad the writer outed her mental illness, I wish more would do the same. Maybe if more people realized their problem they could take initiative and see that all guns are removed from their homes, on their own. Ask a family member to assist with that task. Now once and for all, to all the anti gun people; we the responsible gun owners dont care what you think of our guns. If you dont like them, keep your mouth shut. My AR15 Semi Automatic rifle does not affect you. Thanks for your understanding in not downing our guns any further. By the way, there were no semi automatic rifles used at Sandy Hook. It was all handguns!!!

Because you Can't Always get what You Want. IF an individual wants this type of weapon and If it remains legal, a mandatory firearms course should be required. Everyone references wives needing weaponry. The wife should certainly have some type of training if you are counting on her ability to wipe out multiple intruders, keep the kids back and calmly execute the intruders. I think we need to spend some time on more than just the availability of a firearm. There may be some better suggestions than just screaming the 2nd Amendment or no one needs one(type of weapon).

Complete the following sentence for me please. No American law-abiding citizen should be able to buy a semi-automatic variant of these same weapons to defend themselves and their family in a close-quarters situation, like a home, because ….........

DHS requests “assault weapons” due to their suitabilty as a close-quarters self-defense weapon.

Section C of solicitation number HSCEMS-12-R-00011 states: The scope of this contract is to provide a total of up to 7,000 5.56x45mm North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) personal defense weapons (PDW) throughout the life of this contract to numerous Department of Homeland Security components. … In paragraph 3.1 under requirements and testing standards we read… DHS and its components have a requirement for a 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required.

I'd like to hear a proposal on how, in reality, you stop someone that is CLEARLY stark raving mad, from buying a gun if they deny they're stark raving mad (and virtually all people that crazy deny they're crazy), and there is no medical diagnosis.

And also when you fill out the application to purchase a weapon the question clearly ask you about your mental state and are you a drug user etc so as in your letter you state you have a form of depression so you would check the box yes and guess what you will be denied the ability to purchase the gun but if you lie on the questionnaire you are clearly breaking the law which is why I'm gonna tell you more laws are totally useless. Laws are only in the books to merit a punishment for a crime laws do not stop anyone from being a criminal.

This letter has some merit although it also has false misleading information. Please do your homework and understand the difference between "automatic" and "semi-automatic" then go to the gun store and ask to purchase one of these and see what your offered. You will soon learn you or I can not purchase a fully automatic weapon. Fully automatic weapons are already banned and have been long before this slaughter of innocent children. When the media misrepresents the facts it seems everyone just sits back and listens and believes what they hear. We call them the uneducated listener. I don't know if you ever watched Ted Nugent or not but he's had a loaded gun in his house for over 40 years and it hasn't killed a single person, rat, tick. Guns don't kill people, people kill people so take away guns and I suppose the nutcases will follow suit from what happened in times past with the guy burning down the school and killing all those innocent children. Then what, do we ban
