of man to cause evil on another or natural disasters of hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, etc. alas, many times these calamities will restore people back to Him. So good can be accomplished though evil.

Since you do/have read the Bible and there are some apparently contradictory verses/translations. If you would like, there are several books that can explain this far better than me. "When Critics Ask" by Geisler and Howe or "Hard Sayings of the Bible" by Kaiser, Davids, Bruce and Brauch.

Ridgerunnr, Thank you for stating your translation, KJV.

Might I offer some others from Isaiah 45:7 "The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these." --NASB "I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things." --NIV. "I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.’" --NKJV. "I form light and create darkness, I make success and create disaster; I, Yahweh, do all these things." HCSB. "I create the light and make the darkness.I send good times and bad times. I, the Lord, am the one who does these things." --NLT

So is God the author of evil? Many text declare He is not, check Deut 32:4, Psalm 5:4. Matt 5:48. So God is not morally evil. What is displayed here in these verses is a physical evil, an evil that He permits through the free choice

Isaiah 45:7 (KJV)

"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." God

"...And deliver us from evil..." Jesus

Wait, what?... is Jesus asking himself to protect us from himself?

Some of its readers, not all and not necessarily even the majority, have some to do with why the bible is hated.

Regardless however of my personal feelings, your point was a well written.

1 Timothy 2:12

I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.

Ridgerunnr,

The author of the LTE mentions a book that has since been updated called "The New Evidence that Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell. If you are serious about getting more information, I whole heartedly recommend it.

I was taught as a youth in the church that we attended then that the bible had been preserved for us, intact, without error. I was told by a pastor a few years ago, when I asked a question about the interpretation of a passage in King (or Judges), that "We don't know... not all of the writings from then were preserved for us. Thus, my quest, research, further inquiry, and my current status as having atheistic views.
