Made a bad decision (or should I say poor business execution) on the ice hockey gig.

Don't keep digging the hole deeper with this landlord-tenant law. This is not the city's core business. Fix the roads, keep the water and sewer working, provide an adequate police and fire department.

The story to protect people from domestic violence; emotionally touching but I don't buy it. Are you going to deny these people housing? No. Are you going to make sure they don't violate restraining orders? No. Are you going to make sure convicted criminals don't posses firearms? No. Does it change the behavior of a convicted or un-convicted child molester? No

Furthermore, if they DO pass this law are they going to put pressure on slumlords to stop being...well slum lords? Are they going to start putting pressure on deadbeat tenants to pay bills/rent?

What is ultimately gained by this ordinance? Nothing.

The mayor should get some heat from this law. I often wonder if the mayor and his council really care about the housing situation here in Williamsport. Should this law pass, I feel it will put it's renting tenants in a more stressful situation. With the increase of rents due to the gas industry, it's already hard to find a decent place to live. If this law is passed will Williamsport have more homeless? If how will you deal with that issue? My wife and I find it a challenge to live here. It's just another way of invading one's privacy. Next we'll have to sign in and out of our living quarters. This law won't effect the mayor or his council, because even if they own rental property, they'll be "secretly" protected from it! I'm so tired of our local & federal gov't trying to push it's way into ours lives. So Mr. Mayor, should I cut you a key to my house? Maybe Gabe should have spent a little more time researching his tenant-- Outlaws Is he unaware Berwick is still finding meth labs even with their registration ordinance? Anyone remember the types of places his mother used to rent?

This is ridiculous. You can bet the number of people will be out in force, if our so called "mayor," is able to get this passed. Big brother is out there everywhere. Honestly, how much crime, destruction, or sub par apartments could this deter? Please help me understand. In the meantime, the city is still footing the bill for the ice hockey team that drown (pun intended) and there are still at least an average of "shots fired," or city shootings once a week. With some cases, still not being solved. Determination this mayor lacks. Good luck to the next one, as he/she will have a bit of a mess to clean up.

So just what is the big deal hear? Anyone that owns a home has to do basically the same thing so I really don't see the problem. Kinda like ******** about an ID to vote from someone who lives off government money . . . Show it or lose it.

Have we learned NOTHING yet about this mayor. Honestly, if it has Gabo the Clown's fingerprints on it, we truly have to turn and run in the opposite direction of whatever it is he is suggesting.

Our mayor is a farce: he provides entertainment - a laugh a minute in fact. But take him seriously - NO WAY!

When you own a property (and I don't so I state this info on my understanding of it) you have taxes and insurance, zoning, codes, etc to deal with, so it's virtually impossible not to know who owns a property, including those who are landlords. The 'registration' to me, targets tenants; they're just calling it "landlord and tenant" because they want it to look equal. Do Landlords not have to already list a property as a rental? (thought they did, maybe I'm wrong). So again this targets tenants. Not real sure why anyone disagreed with the initial question I posed, because I've yet to hear a response to it, so clearly no one has an answer.

I'll tell you what, some of the comments on these pages never cease to amaze me, though i wish they did. Law abiding citizens as well as reputable landlords would have nothing to worry about. This ordinance is meant to keep criminals, skumbags, and illegal aliens out of williamsport. It would probably no doubt also be used to help law enforcement track down perpetrators of crimes and help round up those who have fallen off the grid for warrents to. It will give landlords a tool to help verify the identity of the person they are renting to. Alot of landlords are doing credit checks and all kinds of checks before they rent to people these days anyway. This would help them find out if the person they are about to rent to may be using someone elses identity to rent an apartment. Get real here people. Do you really want criminals and illegals setting up shop in your neighborhoods?

So Netwarrior, you're saying that I, a law-abiding citizen, should be forced to register to rent in Williamsport to prevent the criminals and scumbags from doing the same?

If only the gun rights folks on here felt the same way about registering their firearms!

You can't control "guests" and "visitors "even if you collect every name of "legal tenants". Do you actually think drug dealers are renting apartments in their own name? This is exactly why this town is stuck on stupid when it comes to crime.

Hey you know what djzlucky, i own property and a home in lycoming county and its all public knowledge. Anybody can walk into the court house on any given day and see who i am and what i own and im a law abiding citizen as you are and i have no problem with it. This list if it is ever created will remain confidential. I dont see how you can even compare gun registration to tenant registration other than the fact that the word "registration" is coined in each term. Its not like they are gonna register all tenants and then take their homes from them. If a national registry is ever created for firearms, that is exactly what will happen someday to them because they will know just where to find them. However, if a criminal or illegal is trying to live in my neighborhood, id want the proper authorities to know about it and deal with it accordingly. Normal law abiding citizens have nothing to lose and everything to gain in this scenario.

Netwarrior, I'm going to choose to ignore the knee jerk "take our guns away" portion of your post and stick to the topic rental registration. I used the gun analogy just to get a rise out of the gun rights crew.

Your own post stated that a responsible property owner should already be doing the proper checks on tenants. If they're not they should be held responsible. I've got no problem with home inspections for safety purposes but fail to see how a city wide database of renters will solve any of the issues you raise. At this point I have not heard

At this point I haven't heard anyone suggest that this database would be available to landlords prior to renting a home, only that new tenants would need to be registered. In fact it would probably be illegal to use the database to "discriminate" against certain renters.

It is profiling. Even if the person is a criminal, and under the proper supervision, does he/she not have a right to rent. Unless, they are killers, or rapists, they do still have a right to rent. However, try letting someone of a non-white race rent from a landlord in a neighborhood near Belmont Ave or an area comparable to such. It would be surprising if that would be acceptable. I am not saying there is racism in those specific neighborhoods, but I am making it known that these "agenda" by the mayor supports the basis of profiling to a certain extent.

Saints-- how many of the homes "in a neighborhood near Belmont Ave or an area comparable" are rentals? Not many There are "non-white race" people in these neighborhoods, just not the race you seem to be alluding to. I believe you should examine the economics and residents of a neighborhood before you try and claim racism. And BTW, I am against the tenant registration.

Old Lycoming has a tenant registration for years , they get 60% response if that helps.
