Enough on Obama

February 8, 2013

I think because of the way you beat up President Obama every day on the Editorial Page, this paper is starting to resemble the Republican Party....

The Sun Gazzette is one of the last media outlets that allows it's readers a spot in the public view to offer an uncensored opinion. Don't take their generoucity as being onesided as we can all attest to some pretty liberal left wing propaganda pieces published on a regular basis in the Letters to the Editors section. I truly believe they are just publishing what their readership is sending in without censoring before being made public. I believe that is what we in America like to call our First Amendment rights. I also think if you don't agree with with allowing the free expression of our First Amendment rights, Ken, you are a prime example of what we Conservative Americans are fighting against becoming more powerful! And to think that you are using the same generously offered venue that you criticize for just publishing what it's offered shows just exactly how arrogant the left wing followers of the President really are!

It's not every day that a letter writer gets smacked down by the SG.

To the Editor's Note: shut up, you didn't help yourself, lol. Seriously, you can say what you want but there are times when SG is blindly bias. Having said that.. as far as this letter is concerned, I don't really have an issue with the articles and the comments of other readers, editors. I actually enjoy the varying opinions even if, at times, I aggressively disagree with them or they aggressively disagree with me.

Francine - you are correct. I have had a number of lte's where the original wording was changed, or they left out pertinent parts important to the writing. I also know of a number of others who have complained about that.

Actually there was one about 4 years ago that caused hate mail to my wife because they changed wording and left a very important part of it out. They allowed part of the story but not the whole story.

Knowing what editorial pages are supposed to be goes a long way in this discussion.

Good job by the SG on setting the record straight.

Virtually every daily newspaper in the country accepts and prints letters from the public. In no way are these opinions "uncensored". I've talked to innumerable people that have sent letters into the paper only to have them edited in a way that altered their basic meaning or intent.

I've also noticed that, I've also noticed that if you submit a LTE that makes too much sense, it doesn't get published at all.

It's the Press, they're going to tell you and show you what they want you to hear and see, nothing more, maybe something less.

The SG edits letters all the time. I don't know of anyone who has submitted letters that has not had something edited in at least one of them, most people having had several of them edited.

The S/G does reflect the more conservative population that exists in North Central rural Pennsylvania. You could be stuck with the liberal dominated Houston Chronicle like I am.

What this shows is there is a battle, a huge battle for your mind and the public opinion of this country. People and populations are bombarded with certain concepts and ideas to the point where they adopt them as their own ideology.

At the end of the day, is there a standard, is there objectivity, what is truth, what is integrity, what is right, what is the very foundation of our mind and our decision making process?

I propose that you dig deep into the Bible, drink in it's truths, understand it's righteousness, understand how it shows mankind's bad behavior and what the correct path should be. Let it become your guiding light and the objective standard against which we all make our decisions.

You (obviously) "forgot" to list any o' those other "media outlets that allows it's readers a spot in the public view to offer an uncensored opinion."...you know, seeing-as-how there's some way to (actually) quantify such a declaration.

What Editorial pages are (content-wise), are the results of some individual's call/decision.

To suggest there's no local-influence/control, regarding Editorial-content, is absurd.

Some just can’t separate news from editorializing or opinion. Some think anything that isn’t in line with their political or ideological beliefs is “propaganda.” I’ve always believed the SG does a good job of delivering both without trying to disguise their opinions as news. I can’t say the same for most news outlets.

The few times any of my LTEs were edited, I believe it was done to fit them into the space available and not to change the point I was trying to make.

News sources SHULD be critical of what our governments are doing and saying. Unfortunately many have decided their reason for existing is to try and improve the world by reporting in a way that favors their particular ideology.

Sorry but as a member of the liberal commentators here I disagree with Mr. Dauber. When GWB was President the editorial page was filled with opinions, good and bad, about him and all who were working with him. It was the same with Clinton, Reagan, Bush,Sr and all other past Presidents.

It is an opinion page and as with the comments here very few agree with those opinions. Liberals are infuriated with it and conservatives are infuriated with it also.

Chuck is absolutely right. The job of the media is to hold politicians feet to the fire. Unfortunately, too many in the media have taken the part of cheerleader for an ideology. This President has made some huge mistakes and most people don't know about them because the big outlets won't tell you. Even in the Sun-Gazette, you don't hear it because the national stories come from the AP which is one of the lead cheerleaders. Give me an honest story with all the details and let me decide what to think about it. That's all I ask, but I can't seem to get it from the national media. While the editorial page of the SG does lean right, the local news reporters lean left. Seems fair to me; not honest, but fair.
