Not safe

February 10, 2013

As a result of the recent shootings here in Williamsport, Mayor Campana went public to assure us that Williamsport is safe. I beg to differ....

Sounds like this guy need to get a gun. It's a good thing they aren't illegal.

Mr. Jagella doesn't mention reporting any of this to the police. Are they aware of people firing guns outside windows? Or someone assaulting and threatening bodily harm to everyone in a building?

And I don't feel safe in Williamsport, either. I work there, and I don't even like walking to and from my building when it's dark during the winter months.

A very sad situation. And no, you cannot trust anyone these days.

"Sounds like this guy needs to move". Easier said than done. Most, if not all of the people that find themselves living in these low income neighborhoods, do so out of financial necessity. Who would chose living in constant danger if you had a choice in the matter.

This man shouldn't have to move. We need to clean up the riff raff and make it clear this behavior is not acceptable. People who take advantage of other people continue to do it because they suffer zero or very little consequences.

Mr. Jagella,

I want to help you but I'm not sure how. What can I do?

"All of us to some extent are vulnerable to crime, and I believe many criminals are attracted to this area to prey upon us because they see us as vulnerable and as people whom the local police may not adequately protect because we are not valued." - Joseph Jagella

What is it you want....more police-protection....or, budget-cuts???

The taxpayers (of Williamsport) have ALREADY decided you need to quit "taking".

...And, I'm sure they thank local-taxpayers, DAILY, for the opportunities to "ply" their "trade"; unhindered by the minimal law-enforcement head-count!!!!!

The mayor could push to tax everyone harder in the present, bring in more cops, and be hated/not re-elected (or effective); or he can try to build the local economy, attract skilled taxpayers into the area, and grow sustainable tax sources to fund proper police coverage. What attracts criminals here? They don’t come here just to make a big score from some old man’s cookie jar. A majority of the crimes are committed by people who are still kids who came here with their parents. We rarely focus on developing leaders in their neighborhoods and cultivating/supporting good role models. I’m sure there are some true heroes working with little praise for the greater good; we need to support them and do our best to produce more. Who is set up for success to deal with these problems? The mayor is just an administrator, he can help, but he can’t do much without volunteers.
