You can call influence...by "evil spirits"...anything you want. Yes. let's all give organized religion more money. You think the government wastes dollars? How about the state of the Catholic Church? Lawsuits, and legitimate at that, have caused the church to close churches, sell property and pay millions of dollars. My first thought was a real person but realized that they must be referring to the Devil or Satan or what ever you want to call him. The truth in the letter is Jesus. Everything we know, we see, we think is a lie only Jesus is the truth.

DavidBross, Your failure to understand what is said does not mean that what was said was vague. It is merely that you do not have the background to understand. There is much you do not know and it is evident that you do not want to know it. I will admit that when I read the letter I knew there would be many who would not get it even though I understood it completely. "We mock what we do not understand" another good quote.

"The only fool bigger than one who knows it all is the one who argues with them." Nonetheless, I will ignore this excellent advice. There is much about this letter that I find disturbing. For one thing, its level of certainty and the vagueness with which it supported that certainty. See Francine's post for an example. Here is one quote that stuck in my mind in particular. "The Church that establishes freedom, through faithfulness." This reminds me of a similar phrase, "Work will set you free."

Christians have every bit as much right to be involved in politics as anyone else. Webster defines 'evil: morally reprehensible; arising from actual or imputed bad character or conduct' Not a word in there about fairy-tales. You and Gavin seem to equate evil with your disbelief in God, and that is a type of evil, but not the only one. Strange you should think this since one the the classic atheist arguments is, "If God exists, why is there so much evil in the world?" If evil is a fairy tale, that question becomes senseless. Texas, I'm going to sum up my opinion on your comments (which I clicked agree to) by saying that I believe that if you replace "Christianity with the word Religion" and "God with Religious icon(for a lack of a better word) in most of it, I agree completely with it. I don't have a problem with your comments being based on your personal religion of choice. I am just making a statement to say that I believe that most people in this country who have a committed belief in a religion, are better people for it. Does it make me a bad person that I am not strong in faith for any religion? I don't think so, so I'm certainly not saying that makes anyone else a bad person. Overall my point is, people need to have faith in something, something good, something based on love for humanity and self. Without that, there is a strong tendency to walk the wrong path. That faith can, imo, be as simple as believing in yourself and your family. Being a good person, imo, doesn't require

I respect your opinion Mr. Freezer, but I disagree with you.

This country is far too diverse to base laws, legislation, etc off of Christianity. That's just the way it is now in this country, times have changed. I'm not saying that it should be disallowed to advocate for religion or anything like that, but there are so many religions in this country now, that I don't believe it would be fair to legislate based on just one.
