Board supports charter school funding reform

By law, cyber and other charter schools cannot be reimbursed for spending on facilities acquisition, construction and improvement services, community/junior college programs, debt servicing and other items. As such, cyber school per-student spending is a 81% of what traditional public schools spend. Pennsylvania public schools spent during 2010-11, over $14,000 per student. Cyber schools spent about $11,500 per student. Public schools already retain funding for students they no longer have to educate. Which is an increase in funding from the community and State. Just another bunch of elected bureaucrats who have no ideas or designs on spending controls. This is more government force being applied to control the market of schooling, albeit not a free-market. A family has a choice to send the child to a brick and mortar public school or to a cyber/charter school. Those tax dollars should follow the child. Both are public schools.
