I hope they will continue the drop off sites. I recycle but don't have a garbage pick up.

I have read this article a couple of times...I'm not quite sure I get it.

Someone help me out here. They are talking about 'customers' throwing everything in the trash, then the Trash Haulers taking it to a 'sorting center' and having it sorted? Then the rest gets hauled away to a landfill? So no more personal trips to the drop off site/no sorting, they do it all?

Am I understanding this correctly?

I dont care what they say. The county recycling center does not lose money. They pay prisoners 25 cents an hour to sort the recyclables over over there. They might lose money on curbside pick up but they more than make up for it with what they collect both at the land fill and the drop off sites. wwhickok, they will be providing a seperate single container for you to put all your recyclables in without having to sort it. You keep it seperate from your trash. Your local trash hauler would pick that recycling container up once a month they and charge you 5-10 bucks for doing it. So the trash haulers make money off the free service you used to get and the recycling center gets near 100% profit off your recyclables. In my opinion, i think this will cause some to quit recycling. I agree with andy33. I sure hope they continue the drop off sites.

What this equates is big money for trash haulers and the county recycling center.

Thank you Netwarrior for explaining that to me, I read it like three times and just wasn't grasping it. that I actually understand this..I'm totally against it. Why should I have to pay to recycle? That's bogus if you ask me. I agree, they 'hope that it'll increase recycling' I'm sure it'll drastically reduce it. And they can't FORCE you to do it. I too hope they keep the drop off sites, I'd much rather do that. This sort of sounds more like a way to bend over the citizens and **** them again.

Maybe that's why a new prison is needed? More discount employees for the county's business endeavors.....

This is good for everyone. The reason you should have to pay for recycling is that you have to pay for trash disposal. The $5-10 a month you will pay to have your recycling picked up is cheaper than the $5 a bag you would pay to have it picked up for disposal. Recycling will save you money. Thast why you do it. There is no money being made in recycling. The price the county gets for the materials barely offsets the cost of collecting, processing, and hauling them to an end user. If it wasnt for the prison labor recycling couldnt exist. And for the guy that recycles but doesnt have garbage pick up exactly what do you do with your garbage?
