Beautiful job there Breitbart, of selectively editing what I said in attempt to alter the meaning. But of course what I actually said was that the fact that I didn't have enough money to properly heat my home last winter, should be a pretty clear indication that I was spending 100% of the money I was receiving from UC pretty rapidly. And if I was "spending" the money, it was by definition moving from my bank acct, into the bank accts of various businesses.

If people are losing their homes, and not CONSUMING the economy ALSO suffers. THAT is why we have a social safety net called unemployment. Because it's the best solution for EVERYONE in our society. All the "production" in the world is nothing without consumption. Also hate to break it to you, but America has been on a slide to a generally service economy for a long time. How much does the average minimum wage Wal mart employee "produce" in the average workday?

Yes sir I was. I was able to buy food, and pay my bills. 100% of the UC I received went for food and bills. Without it, there would have been some hungry nights, and disconnected services in my cold house.

It's honestly kind of stupid you would ask a question like that. As if I didn't have enough money to adequately heat my home, do you think I was squirreling away unemployment checks under my mattress? ALL the money I got went right back out the door, and was used to pay salaries of employees at the companies I did business with.

Hi enigma.. the reason I didn't refute your post is because it is unclear what point you're trying to make. That the government imposes taxes? That would be correct.. that we have a social safety net in america? 10-4, mi amigo.. that a few people take advantage of this net? Acknowledged! That some people do not produce anything in america? Ok, that is a fact.. mitt himself would seem to fall into this category, no? In fact, there are lots of people, thru savings, inheritances, living modestly, who do not work or produce anything.. Production is of primary importance but likely more so is consumption. I have two uncles who own businesses, when people are consuming their products, they employ people.. without consumption, they lay off. A cohesive point to your post is elusive..

With respect to the argument about UC benefits, and one could argue this would include paid govt workers also, there really is a negative effect to the expansion of both. While we need both we need to minimize them as much as possible. This is because every single recipient of UC and every govt employee is paid by tax revenues. These revenues require workers. If you do not grow the economy with private sector employees, you will not have the funds for UC and govt staff. Yes, the govt staff pays taxes, but that is just returning a portion of what was taken from the tax coffers to hire them in the first place. Think about your own tax liabilities and then think how many of you it takes to pay the wages and bennys of 1 govt staffer or UC recipient. When you think about it, it is easy to see the need to curb govt growth. It is unsustainable.

Yes, Because it leaves money in the private sector which would otherwise be taken by government.

What does that have to do with the government taking money from the private sector, syphoning a large percentage of it off and returning some of it to a non-working person? Now that 'non-working' part is key. A person who is not working is not producing. The economy is based on production and comsumption. You and every other liberal on the planet ignores the production part. If people are consuming without producing, the economy suffers. It's a very easy concept. Nothing can be consumed without first being produced, so production is of primary importance. You can give away all the money in the world, but if people are not working,it will do no good. That is your economics lesson for today.
