I agree. I've been very critical of the process and issues surrounding Bethune Douglas. I do feel, as a parent, it's image needs to be improved and this is a SG/marketing issue imo. I also have my concerns about the neighborhood. One thing I've been lobbying for is the city to put cameras and improved lighting up around the city. If they did so near Bethune Douglas, I think I'd have a better feeling about the area. But that is another discussion for another day. Getting back on point, the building should be used and for its intended original purpose. We need more in this city to encourage kids to follow the right paths and know which paths not to follow. It's important that children have good role models.

As a private citizen, you have the freedom to take up a collection to do whatever you wish. You can personally donate, volunteer your time to make this happen. I find it laughable that the same exact people that complain about certain spending, higher property taxes and waste turn around saying govt should do this/that, spend here/there etc.

Spend, fund, spend! Then the bill come do and its cry, cry, cry when the re-assessment comes around...

The land is permanently deeded for use as a Community Center only, much like Brandon Park has to remain a community park.

Eric, I'm not a leader, I know my strengths and my weaknesses, and leadership, while I feel I have some qualities there, I don't believe it, as a whole, is one of my stronger ones. I would be all for helping out in such a voluntary nature, however, I'm not the guy to lead such a charge. I'm not the voice that is going to send the clear, well heard message. But I'm gladly the guy that is going to help support the man/woman who is.
