The liberal stranglehold

February 27, 2013

This letter concerns a small story in Feb. 18 issue. It seems a Pennsylvania man beat another man to death with a hamme....

Every time I see this hammer argument the first thing that pops into my head is the song by Peter, Paul, and Mary "If I had a Hammer".

It' just a ridiculous talking point.

Sorry for implanting that song into your head for the rest of the day.

"We somehow must add more conservative teachers and administrators. Unless we can break the liberal stranglehold on education, our country as we know it will cease to exist." - John Chesnut

We've been hearing such "warnings", ever since the McCarthy Years....and, still, we "exist".

As a hammer loving American, I would like to point out that there are many peaceful purposes for hammers. You might build a house or build a barn using your hammer, I even used my Dads hammer to crack walnuts when I was just a wee lad. I thinks time that we hammer loving Americans start our own organization, the National Hammer Association where we support the right to own and use hammers, all kinds of hammers from the very small tacking hammer all the way through to the 16 lb sledge hammer. We will also accept people that own combination hatchet/hammers, we will not, under any circumstances accept the real killing machines in this world, THE BLUNT INSTRUMENTS OWNERS!

Again with the hammer...

I really am amazed that people would feel so strongly about this ridiculous idea that they would write a letter to the editor about it.

Wanting to try and stop mass killings committed by weapons designed for the battlefield is NOT the same as trying to stop all violence in the world, ever.

And you don't have to look any further then Matthew Bachman to know this isn't some hypothetical debate about things that happen in some far away land.

Not a prob. What you Luddites (obviously) overlook are those folks with the high-capacity DeWalt/Bostitch nail-guns that're taking a majority o' those hammering-opportunities from you.

If people want to stop mass killings, they would take actions to stop the killers as quickly as possible, not to take things away from honest citizens.

Bans are the same thinking that led to prohibition, the war on drugs and other failed policies.

I guess liberals are too stupid to see this.

Jerry once again cannot see the point that is so obvious to conservatives and then tries to accuse us of not caring to solve the problem. The hammer illustration is just that, an illustration. Ban certain types of guns and you have not solved the violence, you will just change the instrument. Banning high capacity magazines will not stop one of these incidents. Police will just find more magazines at the scene. Take every single firearm out of America, (hypothetically) and the a..holes who commit these crimes will just change their methods. They will build bombs, or start fires or run people over with cars. The guns are not the problem. Taking away the ability of individuals to defend themselves is not the answer. As for the actual getting the guns, the same crowd that wants to legalize drugs because we can't stop the trade of it, and grant amnesty to illegals because there are too many of them here think you can get rid of guns, (a protected right to own granted by the Constitution).

It seems like a number of songs address this letter.

Please cut and paste the text from my post that states the accusation.

Try, again.

The drugs/guns-issues are one-and-the-SAME. BOTH are (only) as dangerous as they're used.

...And, those lines (from "For What It's Worth") couldn't be a better description o' "conservatives", from the moment they're born.
