I’ve been hearing from the smarter-than-thou crowd that you are safer without a gun. They tell me that you are much more likely to be killed if you own a gun....

"I know the police have to face armed criminals more often than I do"

Really? You live in scary Montoursville Rinker. Why in Montoursville, there's murders every other day, and armed bands of thigs constantly roaming the streets. It's like a post apocalyptic hel lscape. I doubt you'd last 5 minutes without a gun in Montoursville.

But then again, the proposed legislation only applies to a very narrow class of firearms. I'm pretty sure you may still be able to survive in a wild west like Montoursville with a 5 shot pump action shotgun, and a pistol with a 10 shot magazine.

It is true that you are considerably more likely to be killed or injured by a gun if your have one in your home. That being said, I recommend that you immediately stock up. You shouldn't stop at 2 or 3. You should get 15 or 20, and leave them loaded, and with a round chambered, laying all over your house. Let's show these stupid people that believe in silly things like statistics whats up.

This gun debate thing is getting so boring. Same old thing over and over and over. Neither side is going to change their stance. Let it go.

Thanks, Mr. Rinker, for clearly showing how absurd the anti-gun left is. And thanks to Chris' comments here for reinforcing that absurdity.

Thanks Mr. Rinker for showing how stupid the gun lovers are. It is a dangerous job for the police and law enforcement not because they have to use a gun but because you have such easy access to guns. They have to armed because you are and more than they are.

Good letter that will fall on not deaf, but dumb ears. Chuckles, are you saying that we should disarm the public? Looks like that's what you are saying. Ask the folks in Chicago, the American Indians, the people in Europe in the early part of the 20th century and many more how well that worked. Ask them how well they were able to defend themselves, ask them how safe they were.

Amen Mr. Rinker. Hayes, there is no hope for you or Chuck! Can't you figure out that if the legislation applies to such a narrow class of firearms that the only thing that will change is the type of firearm used to commit the violence. You lefties love to legislate to make yourselves feel good regardless of whether or not it will accomplish anything. Eliminate every high capacity magazine and so called assault weapon and when the next nutjob kills 20 with a pump shotgun or a pistol with a 10 round magazine are you coming after them next?

There is no hope for the gun lovers. They run on stupid.

The letter has it we want to disarm the police without disarming the public. Gun lovers answer is more and more of the same. It is that guy over there with a gun not me with a gun mentality.

If we let them take just one gun they won't stop until they take them all. Paranoia reigns for the gun worshippers.

After reading about the TX cop who shot a suspect 41 times and reloaded twice doing so and it is on dashboard video. Yep you all need to be disarmed, cops included.

So in effect you're arguing that ALL guns should be banned. Sorry, but I don't drink that brand of Kool Aid.

I wonder if one gun is just as lethal as another gun, msgj, are our troops not armed only with semi automatic pistols, and shotguns? Since the right seems to think hammers are so deadly, maybe we should be looking at not giving our men and women in uniform guns at all anymore, and instead arming them with framing hammers?

I'm not really sure how its possible to have a rational discussion with a group of people that literally aren't capable of understanding the reality of what's going on right in front of them.

-There is no federal legislation currently under consideration to ban all guns, as theletter writer seems to think.

-The ban on military style assault weapons currently under consideration does NOT effect current owners, and is only a ban on future importation and sale.

-The specific weapon category in question is the weapon of choice of people seeking to commit mass murders, and school shootings. I don't personally know of a single instance of someone walking into an area with many people, intent on killing as many as they could, armed only with a single action firearm.

So let's say for example msgj, that your paranoia got just a little worse, and became more than you could stand. You decide you're going to go into a McDonald's at lunch time, and kill as many people as you can, but you can only take one weapon with you. Your choices are a flintlock, a 5 shot single action revolver, and an AK47 with a 30 round magazine. Pick one.

I've also heard that being a police officer is a very dangerous job, and it has now become obvious to me, in light of these two pieces of information that what we need to do is take the guns away from the police." - Paul Rinker

If I was you, I wouldn't rely (too heavily) on "going with my gut", when it comes to making decisions/evaluations.

Whatever "voices", you might be hearing, are quite-obviously confused.

Seems like I could make a fortune selling signs that read "NO GUNS HOLDING MORE THAN ____ ROUNDS BEYOND THIS POINT" to all the wacko lefties here that seem to think that banning larger magazines somehow solves the problem.

Where are all the homes and buildings that proudly display "GUN FREE ZONE" signs anyway? Listening to the left both here and on MSNBC and CNN, you would think that we would see more of them.

"Nearly every policeman in the country carries a semi-automatic handgun with a 'large capacity' magazine, and nearly every police force in the country has semi-automatic 'assault rifles' in their arsenal and some even have them in every police car. Why then should those weapons be denied to law abiding citizens? Is a policeman's life worth more than the average citizen? If your answer to that is yes, you're in the wrong country. That's how it is in a police state, but not in the land of the free. Gun control is not about guns, it's about control." - Paul Rinker

*

You John Wayne fans need to learn a "little" something about subtly. Granted, it wouldn't move you any closer to the gun-fight, about which you fantasize, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
