It's nice that here in Florida, we don't file state or local income tax yearly because of the "bed tax". That tax benifits everybody instead of paying county commissioners salaries.

Seems ridiculous to begin with, tax people you want to come to town and spend money. But, the political machine MUST BE FED. These politicians know no boundaries when it comes to greed. It's so easy for them to spend other people's money. And the fact that they want to divert it elsewhere, that's just what politicians do - lie and obfuscate.

I like how the tax money was going to be used to fix roads. wait. i thought the gas tax the tax on booze and smokes were going to do that. i see the roads are still crappy years later and still no money to fix that. i think its really crazy to read that the hotel tax is currently used for the things stated in this article. someone travelling for business should have a business expense account. by someone, i mean the people that money is supposed to be paying for, the advertising etc.

Hotel taxes are the perfect example of "taxation without representation". Local people will agree to them on the ballot because they think they won't be using the local hotels, but it effects tourism and people that find themselves temporarily homeless due to a fire or flood. I believe Williamsport is currently charging 10% which is high by some standards and low by others.
